hi guy's i am new in concept field and here is my first concept its not drawn by me i had used the cut and paste to make it, basically i want the sword to look like it is made in jungle in a village .plz see and comment. http://s890.photobucket.com/albums/ac104/varun9818494545/
That composite says neither jungle nor village to me. It's fancy, it's ornate, it's expensive-looking. Looks more like some noble would have had custom-made. For great cost.
thanks for all the reply now the answer : griffinax :Basiclly i am making this stuff for my showreel and this is my first concept i want my sword to look like something very heavy to handle so i composed it with the given reference. LoTekK :i agree with your words and now i will change my words from jungle and village to a fantasy sword, thanks for the suggestion mate. achillesian :i do agree with DKK words that how did you figure that?
That is cool that you're taking your first steps into concepting your own work, but I think that you would get a lot better results if you practiced drawing out your own designs instead of just copying and pasting other people's work and putting them together. The problem with doing it your way is that it can lead to inconsistencies throughout the whole weapon as well as lack of respect for your artwork from your fellow peers. Creating your own designs will help exercise your brain so that in the future when you have to create new designs, it will be that much easier to do.
Where are you going with the concept? Is this the finished product? It's generally acceptable for say a 3d modeler and texture artist to compile stuff and through the creation of textures and modeling the object becomes their own. But if you want to be a concept artist, this really isn't going to cut it.
That's not to say referencing isn't hugely important. But references should not in any way be the end product. A good concept artist takes the best of many objects and works to give the piece its own coherent style.
Honestly dude, this forum isn't really the place to come to post photoshop composites, that stuff flies much better on sites such as deviant art. If you want to get into concepting you'll probably want to check out the sketchbook subforum as well. Snoop around there and get a feel for what 2d art's more about.
your word are true turpedo and crazyfingers but as mentioned i am not a concept artist i am a 3d modeler and texturing artist i actually was making an sword for my showreel and one of my friend gave an advice to change the sword and add some more detail in it so i did i do agree with the words that "this forum isn't really the place to come to post photo shop composites"but again i will say i am going to make a model through this reference.
thanks for the peace of advice all you guy's had given and sorry if i had heart someone felling or intention.
But seriously now, no matter if you are a 3d modeller or a meat butcher: if you are making concept art, you should really... make it on your own, you know. Not "copy & paste" like someone already mentioned

hi,
I am with my latest update.here i had attached 2 images regarding the handle,i am having lot of confusion on part of the haled(the part where the sword is handled) plz. help. http://yfrog.com/jn47222443j http://yfrog.com/jn53819772j
plz coment.
What is the confusion about the handle that you are having?
What confuses me is why there are ropes of licorice wrapped all crooked around the handle. Your concept has it looking a bit more like cloth wraps.

By the way Mr. Varun;
Although the 'concept' is really nice, it has been used many times in the history through out the movies "asoka" and through the games "WOW WOTLK." You might want to elaborate your idea in to detail and explain it.
Concept = idea or storyline
Idea = idea
You should state where you are going with this, where you got this idea from and what is it going to be.
So people will know that you havent cheated off someone else.
my 2 cents.
I own a sword like that... Kilgorn sword of darkness by KitRae... you should probably push the shape of it more so it doesn't look like you just tacked on some extra knobby points to the blade... I mean the entire hilt, crossguard and base of the blade is exactly the same as the sword of darkness.
It's alright to be inspired by other work but if someone can see entire unaltered detailing and lines of an original source, that's not so much inspired as it is copying.
i do also think so had just changed the name from jungle to an fantasy sword. I had done some changes and there is the latest wip of it ,i had baked the high and low poly. http://s890.photobucket.com/albums/ac104/varun9818494545/
They are assuming that you took the design from someone else and calling it your own...You really have to rethink regarding your sword and write notes.
hey.. I dont really think you're getting what people are saying.. they're trying to tell you that you should start from scratch and completely redesign the sword from the ground up - with a story in mind, why things are where they are and what real world effects they would have. Also this will be a mental exercise as well as a physical one - it will only make you a better artist. So my vote is if you want jungle themed sword, then start redesigning a jungle themed sword. I'm not trying to be harsh but if you are going to ask for crits, but then not even take them into consideration, then you really shouldn't be asking for crits.. and notes are a great idea - they'll get your thoughts down in a physical space.
EDIT* Nail you're concept so its a firm concept - don't change the name to suite what you've created. you're no longer concepting at that point.
I think we might be taking this a bit far with the concept critique. For where you're at varun, your concept's fine. It's a solid shape and it's nothing too over the top. Great piece to learn some 3d on. As stated earlier, you can take composition concepts like you have and make them your own through 3d and 2d.
As you get better and practice more with the 3d you'll kinda figure out on your own what's important in a 2d concept drawing. Just pound out the 3d and we can can move on from there
MR.Nitewalkr:now i not gonna write any thing about the composition because what i am putting focus is my 3d work not on 2d.
Mr.Cyrael :Realy very thanks for explaining me(actually was very confused).Secondly i won't be able to change anything now because i am running out of time.All this exercise is for my texturing (you got it) not for the 2d work.
MR. crazyfingers :i would be doing the work as said but as said i am running out of time i have to finish this work as soon as possible.
REALLY THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR EXPLANING ME .
THANKYOU

=\....Mr. Varun (with his very own phone number); <.< In this straight forward sentence. Redo your work from the scratch, because it is not just a rip off. It is a direct copy. As in you stole it. So redo your work and start from scratch, think of something on your own, take notes and create a unique piece.
This is my last attempt to make you understand what people want you to do and what you should do in order to restore your respect even if you are running out of time. ^^

MAKE IT AGAIN!! >.<
A little bit of misunderstanding going on, I believe, what he really meant was, "Hello people, this is my first composited concept, which I will use as a base to create and texture the 3D weapon."
He might have thought, instead of directly recreating another artist's concept into 3D, I will merge different concepts into one which suites my likings, but of course, needless to say, he shouldn't have titled the thread "my first concept", but let's cut him some slack, mainly language issues
@Varun: Arrey bhai, kya chal raha hai, agli baar concept khud se paint karna :P
Sorry for the misconception in my earlier posts, I am just basing off my 3d model on the composited concept, I don't claim any rights to the original concepts. I will make sure from the next time to create/paint my own concepts, sorry again. And thanks for all the replies.
AND THANKS TO MR. GRIFFINAX WHO MAKE ME CLEAR ALL THE ABOVE MENTION POINTS ON THIS THREAD ...........CHEERS
SOORY AGAIN FOR EACH AND EVERY THING AND THE MISS UNDERSTANDING. I AM HEAR TO MAKE MY 3D PART STRONG .

thanks
I feel that the blade would break at the handle, if someone used a shield to block a swing...

See I am trying to make this game called rUbInUponDrkSidr. I have a demon horse man in red cape guided by the six eyed shadow.
Ok jokes aside:
Now you must rethink your idea and the design of the sword. Tweek your model shaping to make something look more unique.
And write notes on it.
Have fun.
For jungle I' ll get a big rowdy badass machete
