Hey! I'm a student in a 3D program here in Van City (mostly Maya, some SoftImage) and I'd love some advice from people that know what they're doing, especially on the environment front. I probably should have introduced myself properly on the main boards, but there are a couple of bots running around up there doing intro threads and I don't want to bust in on their racket. Har har.
Below is some of the work I've done in the past few months; any nudges in the right direction are appreciated!
OH. I totally forgot to post this last time. I know it's not game art, but this was my first environment for a 3 week student film last semester. And by "environment" I mean the dock and matte painting. There wasn't enough time to do much else. The little dude was created and animated by the four other guys in my team, who are all my heroes. They are the wind beneath my wings.
Sully's plane from the original Uncharted. I was trying to do something in that vintage travel poster style, and his 1940's era Grumman Goose with the pinup decal on the front has style for miles.
A first attempt at modular environment modeling. I have no idea what I'm doing, but it's super fun.
Been trying to do one of these once a day. Some end up better than others.
cool stuff, nice attention to details in the models and really nice color choices! Keep up the good work Maybe you could post wires and stuff of your buildings and so? Are you interested in texturing the scenes or are you going to show them off as pure models? Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff later
Fer shure. I'll definitely include some wires in the next batch. Also, yep! I'm texturing both scenes right now (one at school and one at home), and when they're done I'll toss them up here.
I finished this a few weeks ago, and it's still a little clunky when it comes to geo and shaders, but still better than the first go at a building. Hopefully that'll never see the light of day.
Also, I didn't do the lines for this one (a talented friend did*), but she was nice enough to let me colour it.
Belated thanks very much! I totally need to do some pieces with a more subtle palette. Use colour that doesn't look like a rainbow threw up all over the place.
This one has problems, for sure, and it's lacking most of the props that would make for a better scene, but I'm running out of time on my demo reel and I'm going to try and squeeze them this week. It's far too geo/texture intense for a game, but it was one of those things that I picked up at a point that was too late to change.
I figure I've got about another month to go before I have to stop using the noob excuse.
With school wrapping up I didn't have time to participate in the gladiators sculpting challenge from last month, but I did a 2D design for Piranha Games here in Vancouver. The theme probably could've been pushed further, in retrospect, but I like the colours.
Also, my graduation show's coming up! It's essentially just a lobby full of computer monitors when you boil it down, but if you're in Vancouver and you're free the evening of Friday, May 7th, feel free to swing by. (We have an official invite kicking around, but I'm not able to track it down just now.)

The actual short is here, because apparently I haven't learned to link properly:

The whole thing is paced a little slowly, but for three weeks it turned pretty well.

Thanks for looking!
please, more !
Thanks very much!

*She says "sure!" to letting me post it.
Tali is cool, although here depicted in a pose that makes her look a bit like a pissed off girl
Shepard stood her up? XD
i like your colour work a lot, even the first environment!
have you textured it?
you have a very nice vibrant happy cartoon style!
Thanks very much! I'm currently texturing the first one, and it should be ready for posting in the next couple of weeks.
It's been a long time since I've seen such a fresh and happy style, and I'm craving to see more..
Keep it up!

I really like Sully's Plane too!
Keep up the good work and present more if possible.

Some Journey fan art done a little while back.
And some colour experimenting with The Last of Us art in the same vein.
Hopefully I'll be able to post some 3D in the next few months - looking at earlier student work is pretty painful. As it should be!
