Maya 32/64 Bit?

Hey, probably the last tech question in my long line of new pc/windows 7 threads. Just a quick question. I have the Maya 32 bit to install but I run 64 bit windows 7. I just got 32 Bit and I can't and don't want to crack a 64 bit version and be a douche so my question is : Can I run 32 bit Maya 2009? Will it run good? Will it run better in 64?

32bit applications should run fine in Windows 7 x64 bit. However a 64bit application can take full advantage and run more efficiently since 4G RAM and higher is now seen by W7 64bit.

Maya ships with installers for both 32-bit and 64-bit editions. Less talk about "cracks" around here, please.

I have maya 09 32 bit running on 64bit windows 7 at work and I don't have any problems. Like MoP said it comes with both versions, just haven't really got around to switching though.

Eeewww...what?
I just ran maya 32 bit and I'm getting horrible slowness on even the selection marquee tool....it feels really slow and ugly..

It's supposed to run good? .....rriiiight.

I saved it in program files x86 that may be the problem?

just remember most autodesk products aren't even supported yet on windows 7, maya 2009 definitely isn't. if yours is an official copy there will be a 64-bit installer on the disc, use that and update your graphics driver

BS tbh. Spent so much and had such a stressful time getting all this crap and I'm repaid by Maya failing and crap like that. /Sigh.

Ugh...then how the hell do you all run your programs perfectly? So I buy a pretty good computer and I'm repaid with this crap..Nice job windows 7. FFS.
What the hell do I do now? I've non-productive since before christmas waiting for this PC and getting everything set up..

I'm running 32-bit Maya on Windows 7 without any issues.

32bit apps run on 64bit operating systems.

Nope.. that's just a folder structure that you put 32bit apps in, doesn't effect the install, it's just for keeping them seperate.

You should have a 64bit install on your official, sanctioned, bought, kosher, not cracked version of Maya 2009.

Like MoP, I have Maya 2009 32bit running on my Win7 64bit work PC and it's perfectly fine.

I have a Maya 2009 license, I was running on vista 32 and it installed the 32 bit and then I got a new configuration with window 7 64 bits and it automatically installed the 64 bit version...

And then Maya is workign perfectly on window 7.

there is only one thing still not working in the 2009 and 2010 version : Mipmapping Trilinear

Your maya is probably made in China or bittorent

I'll check out the 64 bit Maya later but for now I've updated my drivers and I'm going to reinstall 32 bit Maya.

Why? Just update your drivers and if they don't work install the 64bit version...you have a 64bit OS.

So....how come I'm getting like only 40ish FPS when I move a rig around?
I mean, come on, I'm running Maya like my old PC...

I've got

AMD Athlon X4 Qaud Core
4GB RAM
Windows 7
GTX 260 Core 216

compared to my old PC ...2GB RAM, Windows XP, 9600GT

Seriously... on the FPS display it's like 40 FPS. I'm getting really annoyed... Why am I getting such feeble FPS rates? I really don't expect my pc to be so...weak.

It sounds like you should go update the drivers for you video card, while you're at it, update the drivers for every piece of hardware you have. See if that fixes it. Are you running any other programs at the same time as Maya? Maya 32-bit absolutely works on windows 7, it's not the fault of either piece of software.

I have updated my drivers. Hm :S

Edit- Nope, just mozzila and maya. New pc, defragment all the time...all that stuff.

Are you running dual monitors? Occasionally Maya will get wonky, and you might have to go mess with your nvidia card settings. Try all sorts of things, like dual-monitor compatibility mode, force v-sync off, etc. I used to have my Maya viewports turn black and/or get really sluggish, turned out to just be my video card settings.

...Vsync is off, no dual monitors..heh heh. :S
