Questions about LinkedIn

Hey all,

I've just got profile up on LinkedIn following the advice from a few people on here and on a GIM podcast I was listening to earlier.

I just have a couple questions.

Firstly, is it acceptable to just go and add people who work for companies I have/plan to apply to, or is that a no-no?

Secondly... I look a little lonely... WHO WANTS TO BE MY FWIEND?!

I believe it's original intent was adding people you've actually worked with, but after a while I tend to add just about anybody I get a request from. Maybe if you write a fancy intro request they'll add you.

I don't see a problem with adding the HR people at companies you want to work for, as it's a networking tool.... I wouldn't go adding every single person from that company though....

My linkedin is in my PC profile, go ahead and add me if you want.

Many thanks guys, I have added a few people from here who seemed ok with the idea!

It seems like a great tool, probably more useful for those a bit higher up the career ladder than me, but worth a try!

    Thanks again

I get a lot of students and people fresh out of school (generally from where I graduated from) that I reject simply because they didn't send me so much as a message. I think it's maybe better to use it to find emails from guys at a studio your interested in and maybe toss them an email and exchange some dialogue rather than blindly adding people.

Yeah, if you're going to add someone to your network, at least take the time to write a damn message. Don't use the default one....
