maya skin shader.

hi to all,
just want to know which shader is used in Maya as an skin shader and how many map (diff.,normal)are used to render a face.
simply want to know how many textures i have to make a skin type of thing .Would be good if some one explain with example.

    This should probably go in the technical section.

    I have no maya experience, but I guess it goes cross application.

    You would need the diffuse, specular, maybe a normal map for detail, a subdermal colour map, and a subdermal "mask" map that maps what bits should be more transcluscent etc. If I remember correctly, there is also colours for what is deep and what is shallow. Shallow for, for example, veins and deep for flesh.

    It depends on what kind of effect you want to get. The easiest and quickest method would be with a Mental Ray Fast Sub Surface Shader (MISSS_FAST) is the quickest method but with a lot less control. I personally always use the MISSS_SKIN_FAST which is the Mental Ray Fast Skin Shader... To get a good effect you are going to need your standard diffuse/spec/normal as well as atleast one or two maps for the epidermal/subdermal layers to get distinction between the thin subsurface areas and the thicker regions.
