Hello everyone, I am new in this forum I have just created an item for TF2 and wanted to share it here. It's not so good, but I have never used a 3D graphics software before. By the way I wanted to thank the user who made the texturing guide (hope he/she checks this topic sometimes ), that helped me a lot.
I also wanted to ask one thing, that for sure you will know... when I try an item in the itemtest map, it shows the lowest poly model (LOD1) instead of the primary one. I used the itemtest guide to generate all the required files and I got no errors, so I don't know why this happens... how could I fix this?

I just tried compiling my first creation in itemtest just like the tutorial at the Valve developer wiki said. I added in all the right files in the right places, but when I get to the last step, the grey box next to "Launch HLMV" says "cannot determine bin directory", and all the boxes underneath it are blank.
Nothing I press seems to fix it- I tried hitting 'Launch HLMV" and it doesn't do anything. Can anyone help me? This is so frustrating.
the strange thing is that when I load HLMV after compiling, the model is displayed correctly with proper LODs, but then in itemtest the LOD1 is shown...

you have to open the Model Viewer from the SDK before compiling I went mad because I had the same problem and I couldn't find any tips to solve it... the wiki should be update with this imho
Yo yo, I'm making a set for Soldier, for summer. Here's my current WIPs:
I intend it to be a bit more colourful than usual to match typical tacky summer stuff.
And here's the (probably) final gun texture:
Am currently deciding on a hat design:
My favourite is the first, but those I've asked (Facepunch) seem to prefer the stripy one. I'm thinking I'll make the stripy one a little better and hopefully have the first one as a style.
And an outdated image of how the colours work on blue here:
Haha I've already broken up for summer, didn't actually realise I'm a month or so early, oops. Might have to wait a while before I put this on the workshop. In the meantime here's an updated version of the stripe style:
I think the idea of attaching the balloons is wise, they're currently dangerously simple and have a fair amount of UV space doing nothing.
I'm not sure how well this'd work or whether it'd fit well enough with the style, but something that might be interesting would be to give the water tank a subtle transparency - just enough to give a sense of translucency, then have some dark coloured water sloshing about in there.
@Vlek, That Dynamite is nice, but the paint mask could use some work. Right now it covers up all of the detail from the original texture like the paint being worn off at the edges.
Some boss stuff posted the last few pages. Makes me think about making a few more items. I haven't done anything since that Soldier set last August.
k so here is the current addition to the when in rome pack they were finished around the same time as the Hermes hightops so we refrained from releasing them till later, comments

what is the triangle count on the lods, though? those teeth and ropes look fairly tris-intensive judging by the screenshots, but i can't be certain.

I think if you create a custom .qc and compile the model yourself you will have less trouble, because you can set the LOD manually there.

Otherwise it's looking pretty nifty, even if it does make me lament how very, very far away summer is.

Anyway, the new stripes are working pretty well.
Doing a sniper rifle replacement, obviously. Any feedback on the scope?

Thanks for voting!
I think I can fix it though, less contrast in the paint blobs, more contrast in the base colours, mmhmm.
The Six Barrel Serenade
I'd really appreciate a rate up!
This is genius. It would be nice to break up the large space on the outside of the case. How about a couple of stickers
@Pogo, that is the winner of the modelling contest.
@Neo - looks nice. does the swimming cap clip with facial animations?
@Evil_Knevil - Interesting item... so in style 2, is it rotated to open?
Hope you guys like it!
