Vista HB 32 to Windows 7 64bit? No?

Hey... ran into quite a problem. I think I know the answer to it but I'm looking for different opinions. Simple question, can I upgrade from vista HB 32 to windows 7 64 bit? I guess the answer is "no" but I read from somone on a tech forum that you could.

You can upgrade, but it requires you to reformat your hard drive. Also make sure you have a 64bit capable cpu. Changing from 64 vista to 64 7 wouldn't require a reformat, but since you are changing from 32 to 64 it is required.

Okay, thanks, but how exactly do you perform a reformat? Is it particulary dangerous? Does it involve wiping everything, I would guess so due to it seeming as if it's wiping your operating system?

Yes it will clear your hard drive of all files. It will do it when you insert the dvd and go through the steps to installing. It will ask you what drive to put the OS on and then ask you to format it. So do all of your backing up beforehand.

Interesting... but do you need to actually back up like hardware drivers like graphics drivers and such things?

Nope, you just download them again once you are up and running. Windows 7 gets a lots of it for you. You should only really need to manually install graphics, tablet, mouse/keyboard and maybe sound drivers.

question is not if the software can do it. It's wether or not your hardware supports a 64bit OS. Your processor needs to be compatible.

Okay, just to summarise, I can actually use the 64 bit version on the family pack of windows 7 if I reformat m harddrive (which, as one of you said, is done by the disc when you put it in?) and have a 64 capabale cpu? I have an AMD Athlon II X4 Qaud - compatible?
