Hey, there. Thought I should make a sketchbook thread in here, and hopefully it will encourage me to do more on the 3D side. (I'm a total newb with 3D, but have been learning Maya and 3Dsmax.) I started getting into 3D partly to aid with perspective issues on my 2D concepts.
I'm also posting my 2D stuff as well, which is where I have a bit more experience. Crits are welcome on both 2d and 3d works.
This first piece was one of my first stabs at 3D,and I used it as the basis for my Dracula's Castle painting.
Thanks for the compliments, everybody. Glad you like the sketches so far.
I suppose I should be finishing the coral piece, but I got sidetracked today because I saw a picture of Michael Chertoff on Boing Boing, and maaaan, he's got a creeeepy smirk. So I had to draw him.
This will give you an idea of how I do some of my pieces. I tend to have reference shots (if any) up on one corner and two windows open on the file, one zoomed in, and one zoomed out. This way I can see how things are turning out at viewable sizes. The first pass is looser sketchiness, the second pass is tighter. (Sometimes I keep "the inks", sometimes I go for a more painterly feel.)
