Necromancer

Hey guys I'm back with a new thread. I'm working on a new model, the concept was done by Adrian Majkrzak http://twitchfinger.cghub.com/. Just a brief description, the necromancer is suppose to be around 7 feet tall. I have a problem with my proportions , the guy looks good without the armor but once that’s added he looks weak. This concept is kind of tricky cause its hard to keep the originality but have the character look strong still. I really want a model that has a strong silhouette. I made another image that I liquify to play around the proportions. So far I feel like the upper body needs to be wider. Please Comment:)

I think you get a problem with showing a powerful upper body, when you have big, long legs. If you want to show a really strong upper body it would now need to be longer and wider.

The size of the leg armor/boot compared to the size of the chest armor is also a big problem.

Once you get that power beard in there this should really start coming together. Right now the bulky head is a bit dispraportional, but the beard will bring it together and fill out the upper body.

Lookin' good, though i prefer it without anatomy showing (clothed), as in the concept. Helps sell the animal nature of the character.

The legs might seem a little longer than they are because its in perspective mode. I had to change the concept of the boot because the drawing does not translate well to 3D and the silhouette is not that great once I model it.

I'll get the beard on there soon as possible, really not sure how to do the beard I might use alphas or just sculpt it. as far the clothing I'm waiting to finish the body completely before I model the clothing.

hey man, glad to see you posted again, and nice update on this guy since the last time i saw it. anyway i agree with you that without the armor you can get a better sense of his size and with it he loses some of that, the size of his armor in relation to his body can help make him feel more massive so you can try making the armor smaller and see how that looks.

Think I finally getting closer to the right proportions, after tinkering around with the size of the armor and body. Now I'll probably go more in depth with his armor and see how it turns out.

I love the style. On a weird side note, you should make a tutorial on how you sculpt hands. Can't wait for some more updates.

definitely looks cool, but personally i think itd look more necromancerish if the armor and clothes werent so symmetrical. Maybe splash in a bit of with doctor feel ya know?

Sorry guys but I've been busy at work. I finally got a chance to play around with my character. Overall I was not happy with how the proportions were on my characters armor. I concept more variations of him in different armor and made his upper body wider. I really love the front sketch of him but I'm not sold on the profile and back view. I did a quick block out of him in 3d just to get a better idea. Only part I'm stuck on is his shoulder armor. I want to make armor that has a purpose and animates well.I want to Visualize everything about this character before I start modeling the finally assets.Tell me what you think.

Hey man good to see ya on here again. Good work thus far.

I really dig the concept for this guy. Kinda seems like your bulking him up to be more powerful were as the concept looks more like he is smaller and more agile. Seems like someone that would be kinda lanky and likely to creep up on someone and use magic rather than strength.

Besides that with the updates thus far I think the armor is going in a good direction. The original shoulder pads reminded me of Shredder's pads. :) Now they seem kinda more like football pads which is good if you were to keep the body more slender and let the armor bulk him up.

Overall some sweet stuff. Love the subject. Keep up the good work.

Whats up Kincade, been a long time since I've posted on here. Thanks guys for all the comments. I did another update, I'm gradually figuring out what style of armor looks right on him. Still doing sketches for the shoulder and arm armor, so I can get the armor mechanically correct. I'm not sure yet If I want the shoulder armor to be one or multiple pieces. If I make it one piece it will probably restrict his movement up top, if the piece is made out of metal. I might have to look at medieval armor to get a better idea. Next I will probably just work on the body more and change his face to make him more intimidating
