This is a spiritual continuation from
this topic, to create an enemy for the german dude. I will still update that thread though, as weapons get finished, and so on.
But without further ado, I present to you the meager beginnings of the highpoly model:

Luckily I am not gunning for a concept artist position :P
nice start! maybe a bit close to the german, you could definitely exagerate the forms more.
But yeah, will look into a more exaggerated face. Thanks ^_^
So yeah, not to sound disrespectful, I am pretty satisfied with the face at this point. Might exaggerate the jaw more for clarity, but the "bulbosity" stays..
I think all that is being said here in the crits about what you've got being too similar is basically saying "Hey, we like your style, but we would love to see you try something totally different and fresh to expand on your already quite evident skill level". I feel this way as well. The new guy you've made is nice- make him kick some ass as I'm sure you will and then step outside of your comfort zone after him and do something a little more different. I'm liking what you do with this work. Keep it up.
Nice work so far. I agree with the head being very similar but with the helmets and same
body scale this is the best route you can take.
I think to get different character you could model two more commanderish guys for two seated tanks. One german guy looking kinda like neox´s airborn evil guy but of
course with your style only proportionwise and an english commander with almost no
chin a hughe mustache and a cup of tea in his hands
^ That would be awesome! when i think about that, I picture the english cousin in Asterix and Obelix.
The one on the right:
As for the no forehead bit, I was sorta hoping that it was not too blatant. But I really wanted the helmet to cover his eyes and rest on his nose, to underline the whole mindless minion thing, while still retaining the basic proportions of the helmet. The compromize cost him his forehead, which makes him absolutely silly to look at with the helmet off.
As for the English commander, funny you should say it, as I had begun making a scruffy WWI sergant major for a school project that was scrapped because of bad planning and procrastination. I might take up that character again though in game resolution, just for kicks, now that I have learned heaps working on the german fellow.
@Millah: Thanks for the kind words. But I am already quite a bit out of my comfort zone, as what I am used to doing is mechanical and inorganic SubD modelling, and lighting and rendering in MR for arch and prodViz. The last time I seriously was working on a character is almost two years ago now, and that wasn't game res by a long shot. But I will be sure to push it further, thanks!
Loving the bootstraps.
*eager*
This please!
As for the muttonstache, all the soldiers in the game will use this model, and I think it will be a bit odd if every british soldier looks like a 14th century Earl.
@Yamo: That means I would have to sculpt more hair, and I hate that idea.. haha..
The torso is finished now, yay! Now onto even more foldy dreadfulness on the trousers..
I think you may want to consider going a little thicker with your details however. The straps on the ankles, belt, and suspenders are not very noticable. You dont need to go crazy, but adding a little more pop to them would be cool.
(btw, i second the notion of adding a stache )
If he weren't a generic model, he would totally get a stache.
This took way too long, but that was due to seeing the German dude rigged, and the meh deformations, so gave this puppy a bit more geometry. Also gonna revise on the German dude..
Got an update, major map fixing is done:
now i want textures !
Might have him finished tonight, if all goes according to plan..
