Space travel is one of the things I want to be able to do in my lifetime, and hopefully it will happen. Even though staring st the Milky Way from here is awesome, seeing the Earth as a whole and not just a picture would be a dream come true .

I hope it's a lucid dream as well, but most likely I would be thinking it's reality with all the absurdity going on around me.

When I first heard of plasma rockets they said the journey to mars would be cut from 1 year to 6 months...or was that nuclear rockets? Anyway 39 days...teh wow.

Sounds like it's 39 days simply because the journey stops there. If plasma is always continuously propelling the object faster then yes they need to start sending robots out to all the other suspected planets outside of the solar system ASAP.

We can calculate how long it would take to get to alpha centuri if we know the acceleration rate of the plasma rockets.

I also read about laser propelled space crafts that could reach 10% the speed of light. (30,000 meters per second)

What will we name the 1st planet we start a colony, we need to spread our seed through out the galaxy to find life and to protect out species, being one just one planet isn't safe.

When naming a new planet, they should do a world wide electronic poll.

But then...

A friend of mine has her PHD in plasma propulsion rockets, and she described it to me as a 'slow drip' rocket. It can't get you into space, but once you're in space the smallest 'drip' from the rocket adds to the speed, so you start fairly slow(ish), but just get faster and faster and faster... I got to step inside one of those giant vacuum tubes when I wandered around her lab!

whats max speed on that kind of stuff, and would it help get to mars faster?

I don't think getting to Mars is the problem. I really believe we could have had someone there years ago. They wouldn't be coming back but we could get them there.
