I know this thread is old but I couldn't resist since its such a great project. I ended up making this modified sledge hammer and would love to get some feedback on it.

I love the idea of putting something on the end of it, I'm guessing you are going to beat it up some, with the handle though a cool idea might be have it as an old broom handle, so it's like a mismatch of random pieces put together.
