Its tough to be optimistic with new moon destroying the hopes of vampires ever being cool again, but I saw this preview for Daybreakers and thought it looked interesting:
Of course, blade is so much *cooler than twilight. I mean, look at him there in that photo. In no way does he look like something from a particularly camp Duran Duran video.
Last cool vampire was Klaus Kinski in the nosferatu remake
Saw this subtitled once:
"If these were men, they would be arrested for pedophilia."
Seriously, you should have heard the women during New Moon oohing and aahing over 16yr old Jacob.. :poly117:
The Wolfman movie is looking pretty cool and pretty much makes the new moon pups look like crap. Would be very cool if they did a total remake of all the universal monsters. The mummy and van helsing movies don't count.
Twilight's just Buffy without the action, or witty dialogue, or decent fx/makeup, or relevant stories/themes cleverly disguised as monsters.. or, y'know Vampires...
seriously though, i've been re-watching Buffy recently and season 1 Angel don't look all that different from glitterboy

i actually have vampire like scarifier teeth but lost tone of them due to wear and tear(looks normal now)
but the vampire movies always make them too fucking big and forget the underside of the mouth
there are also scarifier teeth
I saw one of the better vampire movies I've seen in a long time this weekend. Thought I'd post it as a tip for those interested. It's not like your typical vampire movie, and that's what makes it so good imHo:
This movie is totally awesome, although I've heard people say its an amazing love story who I think have missed the fact that
The 'dad' for the vampire girl is a kid she recruited just like the kid she is recruiting in the movie, and that she has been doing this for hundreds of years, trading in the old ones for new kids when they get too old.
Ghostscape, no you are wrong, their real relation is described better in the book, and it's darker than that :
The man with Eli is an ex-teacher, and pedophile, thus his relation to Eli, which started when he was already an adult. the relation between Eli and Oskar is a real love story as far as I'm concerned (twisted, I'll give you that), but that's obviously open to debate. And for the record, Eli is not a girl, "she" is asexual.
Strange how Twillight damaged Vampire flicks so much that we forget 30 Days of Night...maybe it's not liked by everyone but I thought it was a decent flick. Any adaption to the graphic novels' sequels would surely have a good go at fixing what Twilight broke.
I hate twilight so much, and true blood. what was once the coolest and scariest from hammer horror destroyed by pop culture. Interview with the vampire I thought was awesome and 30 days of night I loved until josh hartnett went superhero.

Great film by the way, definitely recommended.
Definitely an awesome movie.
I hadn't read the book, so I didn't realize the man had a background like that. I liked my darker interpretation of it. Even with my interpretation of it I think it could be a "real" love story (in that both sides are in love) while still maintaining the predatory nature.
In any event, as someone who doesn't typically care about love stories, vampires, etc, it was totally awesome.
best vampires in recent history. read the book and see the movie.
a non romantic depiction of vampires, kinda like in nosferatu, they are monsters like they should be.
Okay, first off, Bunicula is not a bad series of books. It's a little bit ridiculous, naturally. But it's aimed at a younger audience. And they aren't making a series of big-budget movies out of it, so lets not go pointing fingers.
I have not read any of the Twilight movies, and I haven't seen any of the films. But what little I've gathered about the series is this. Apparently, the sun doesn't kill vampires in the world of Twilight.
Vampires are a fictional convention, so there is plenty of leeway in their portrayal. But the nocurnal nature of the common vampire, and the devastating effect of sunlight, is pretty consistent across most of literature and film. I can safely say that I don't have any interest in vampires that don't crumble to dust in the face of the noonday sun. Several people here are touting 30 Days of Night as a sweet vampire property. That entire premise is based on the vampiric aversion to daylight.
Monsters are supposed to have some manner of weakness. You have to have a way to stop them. The exception is when you are dealing with Japanese horror. Since Twilight is clearly not Japanese, or even horrifying, it doesn't get a pass.
As for vampires bursting into flame in sunlight... that is pretty much a product of Hollywood. European folklore vampires nor Count Dracula from Bram Stoker's novel were harmed by sunlight.
As I pointed out, the "rules" about vampires aren't hard and fast. There are any number of interpretations in various forms of media. And again, since we're dealing with fiction, they are all equally valid.
This is more a matter of me personally taking issue with the way the Twilight franchise deals with vampires + daylight. I am given to understand that they...sparkle. I think many fans who enjoy literature and film involving vampires will agree that this is lame. Very lame. The character of Blade is a vampire who can survive in the sun. You'll notice that he doesn't sparkle, he doesn't moon over teenagers, and he kicks tons of ass. If we are going to have a vampire franchise that involves imperviousness to sunlight, this is the sort of behavior I want accompanying it.
The exception is when you are dealing with Japanese horror. Since Twilight is clearly not Japanese, or even horrifying, it doesn't get a pass.
Don't be racist.
I think Buffy [and Angel] did far worse to vampires then Twilight could possibly hope to. What Twilight portrays horribly is teenage girls.
What are people's main complaints with the vampires in Twilight, out of curiosity? And don't list particular traits of a shitty character, we're talking about a race of beings here, not individuals.

I dream that someday there will be a blade<>twilight crossover... Finally something I can go see with my girlfriend
now that is a great idea!
Imagine that same picture with a group of men in the same age group, with a sign saying "Twilight Dads".
I'm sure the gals at The View would love that.
Ah the sweet justice!!!

there's already a thread about Daybreakers that isn't a lame excuse to bash Twilight.

Seriously...so many zombie movies based around the same thing.
Also, Twilight is ghey and ruined the vampire movie market.
Ah come on, you know theres never a 'lame' reason to bash Twighlight.
To be honest daybreakers seems tacky as hell but at least they don't glitter or play baseball.
It's supposed to be pretty awesome!
Best Vampire flick I've seen in ages.

Although season 1 Angel was 11 years or so ago..

Wait, so are they lesbians who kill vampires? Or vampire lesbians who kill? Or people who kill lesbian vampires?

Does it really matter?

I thought the vampire rules were broken after nosferatu :P
