Hello polycounters.
So i visited my sis the other day and found the cutest statue in her apartment. I snapped some pictures with my trusty digital camera and whipped up a quick modeling sheet. This one is gonna be fun
The top row is my modeling sheet while the bottom row are the pictures i snapped. I wont be able to start modeling him for a few day but when I do, ah man jolly good fun!

the low poly base mesh is still very much WIP right now but I will save the final adjustments until my sculpted high is right on top of it.
By the way does anyone know if the POLYCRUNCHER utility works with 3dsmax 2010? I am asking this because I plan to do all my bakes in max.

Am I the only one here who used to watch that as a kid?
Anyway, looking good so far. Polycruncher in 2010 is the ProOptimizer modifier. Select you're settings, hit calculate and then edit your vert count as needed... I usually pull it down a small amount and then manually edit the verts anyway. It's good to get a decent start on optimization, but don't rely on it 100%
Real Quick update here. I have the sculpting pretty much complete at this point. I am finishing up unwrapping the low so I can bake this little guy. I am a little iffy about the beard and might spend some time and rework it into a bit more of cartoony style. I didn't know whether to keep the hair very clumpy or go with small strands, or a mix. let me know what you think about that but for now I guess I will leave it.
CANT WAIT TO BAKE!
hey everyone! quick update on hermann. I named him hermann. hehe. anyways I resculped hermanns beard to fit the concept more. I am so much more satisfied with this version, but if anyone has crits feel free to let loose. Only textures I have left to bake are the head now. I will upload a baked lowpoly soon so stay tunes polycount.

That beard looks tons better than your other one, nice work sir.
Lookin forward to seeing this guy with completed textures and such on him :P The highres stuff looks great so far :P
small update on Hermanns progress. Almost finished painting the diffuse and normals. Only thing left is the spec map. The lighting in this scene is not going to be the final beauty pass, just WIP so you polycounters can get an idea of what I had in mind. I think maybe the source light needs to be stronger, oh well I'll play with it later.
comments and critiques strongly encouraged. Thanks

ENJOY.
more beauty renders coming soon. I still need to rig him and pose him, maybe even some animations. Also let me know what you guys think about building a stand for him. Does he need one?
Comments and Critiques very encouraged. Thanks polycounters
