molten rhino, flow texture questions

in maya,
trying to establish a better flowing texture process that would be at least somewhat practical. (i dont really have spec understanding what is/isn't possible.

But What you are seeing is two meshes, a (normals -.05'extrude') version with moving sheet and wonky uvs under a png.

having some xray issues but i can seem to work that out.

anyone have an ideas? obviously getting the lava to adhere to a path will require more UVs.. there has got to be a way to get some type of additive or incandescence map onto 1 shader to create an overlay effect without transparency and x2 models?
