Hey guys n gals, I'm pretty new to 3d and well I'd like to show where im headed and maybe get a little guidance on the way. I live in San Diego, have been playing around with in max for about a year now, took a few classes but cant really afford to attend an art school yet.
So anyway, here are some of the projects iv been working on. Please feel free to critique any thing you see, i have a thick hide and could use the help. Cheers!
Lots of fun, mostly unfinished ideas floating around in my head, but looking around the site I am am so inspired to do better. Thanks for any crits
Hey, Hoopla! I'll give you some love. haha. Considering your experience this all looks pretty darn good. I like the idea of that last tree house boat lookin' thing. I don't know what restrictions you were working with there but the texture resolution throws off the look a bit. Also, the window in the last shot looks too 'real' for the rest of the model if you know what I mean. The whole thing has a nice N64 feel and the window looks like someone threw a photo of a window up there.
But yeah, keep practicing and working off inspiration from all the great artists on Polycount and I'm sure you'll go far! Cheers!
haha, thanks man, i was beginning to wonder if my posts were even working :P yeah the textures are not really done on the boathouse, it meant to be a little tower for an rts that didnt get made. i threw the window pic up just for reference really. my brother is a programmer at a local game dev studio so we had planned on making an rts but, im sure you know how that goes.
thanks for the love man haha. im working on some weapon models from some diablo concept are i came across, ill probably throw up some wips soon. having a hard time with materials and zbrush 3.5 r3.
If I were you I would take that awesome treehouse/ship idea and keep working it. I LOVE it.
thanks! I think im going to replace the textures with some hand drawn stuff, gota see how the style goes, idk if i would want that in my portfolio since the textures are mostly just copy/paste photos.
Those boards look like bacon.
Your approach: Why are you using markers? If your final is going to end up on a model you may want to consider digital. Hand drawn (traditional) stuff is too noisy and you'll be doing a lot of retouch to get it looking good on the model. Use custom ps brushes (you may not even need custom) or get some online from someone else. The hand painted stylized look is all about noise reduction in hte right places (a little is ok)
well i was using markers because i was at work doodling and thats all i had.
iv been trying to draw in photoshop and just cant seem to get a style and technique going that seems to work for me, it doesnt really look like i want it to.
iv been looking for some digital painting tutes but havent come across a good one yet, any suggestions?

The concept, in my eyes, warrants a hand painted texture since it is a fantasy oriented idea that probably wouldn't be utilized in a realistic world.
i will spend some time doing the textures and make some more details and stuff over this coming week
made this with some markers, not sure if i like it. not really sure i should be working on this but im a little burnt out right now.
cnc welcome.
messing around with tiling.
my scan from this canvas paper i used is making me laugh. lol, next time i doodle it will be on normal paper...
i think im going to print out my uvmap and draw on the paper.
