I'm rendering a reflection pass using a Matte/Shadow/Reflection material. Ambient Occlusion and shadows are switched off - only receive reflections are enabled.
As you can see in the pic there is some blotchiness showing in the reflection. There is only a skylight in the scene. I've played around wih most of the settings ie. final gather precision, glossy reflection precision but I'm unable to completely get rid of it. Any ideas of the cause and how to fix it? Or a good way to get a clean reflection on a plain white background (The object has a MR material)?

Are you sure AO is switched off in the globals?
Are you using any FG or GI?
I don't use max sorry, but in xsi theres a global setting that gets applied by default, if its the same in max, then it should be under the mental ray options.
