Future Poly 3d Art Program and Seminars

A friend from work has started a school I'll be teaching at. All of the instructors are currently working at a studio(and will continue to do so), hence the night school aspect of it. We're sort of seeing it as a direct approach to finding out what you really need to be doing to get a portfolio together.

Anyway! We are doing a pretty rad little seminar (flier on the first page). Big group of artists painting their way through 5 hours alternating time in 3 projector screens. I'll be doing some sculpting, most everyone else is painting. Check it out!

Goodluck Stoof! Sounds like a fun project to be working on--sounds kind of like a painting atelier, but for game art. Hopefully you can gain enough students to keep momentum!

Pretty much similar to that, Joe. Currently we are small enough and don't have a lot of overhead. Should be pretty sustainable at this rate. Quite a bit of excitement from the local game art program students as well. Heres hoping!

Good Luck! Nice start by the way. Will you be offering any online instructions in terms to make a portfolio for game development, programming, 3d modeling and so on?

You should talk to Mike (Seattle one) over at ConceptArt.org. Last I knew he was looking for a job that might have taken him outside the state, but if he hasn't. He has been trying to get something like this going for a long time. If nothing else, give them the heads up at the Seattle Sketch Group thread.

Unfortunately I cant go during the daytime. Sounds like a neat event. But personally, I get more from when the person tells what and why they are doing such.

Oxy: I dont know who mike (seattle one) is. I don't know if we are looking for anyone else as far as teaching goes. We only have a little space and so our nights are mostly filled. I don't know what the seattle sketch group thread is. Sorry. I'm sure it will get posted by kekai or jason, though. Somewhere?

Also this is not strictly painting. There will be QA situation. Jason will be either asking questions or the crowd will when certain artists are focused on for doing something interesting.

Hey guys! The first seminar sold out and went really well. We're doing another and its a totally different format. Very game related! Matt will be doing some style guides and talking through the process of going from thumbnails to workable concept sheet and then Jason will be taking the concepts and making game ready assets over the next half of the seminar.

This looks pretty interesting. I'm starting at Academy of Art this year, but I don't expect to be there more than 2 years. If I'm still in need of some experience in a few years I'll definitely check this out. It'd be a good excuse to go to Bellevue too.

Jeremy: We are talking about it. Right now it's not an option--we really want to keep it tight and controlled and the hands on/instructor in the room is very important to us.

hey Joe, couldnt make the showdown in seattle despite the awesome prices. I heard Kekai and tom scholes say something about movies/downloadeable content. I dont know how involved you are in the movie process but you wouldnt know of any approx dates for these?

No dates. I haven't edited the videos yet. The guys did go in and record some further footage for the videos, though.

You guys really need to think about putting the tutions online, because most of it really interests people who cant reach you. This can be done as with video tutorials and all.

-Like people would pay you to download the lactures and tutorials, via paypal or visa.
-mailing the question sheets for assignments and getting them back via e-mail.
