Character Artist - Big Huge Games

Would you like to become part of the team that includes the creative visionaries behind Oblivion and Rise of Nations, as well as Drizzt Do’Urden and Spawn? 38 Studios, LLC is currently seeking a Character Artist to join our Art department at the Big Huge Games studio in Timonium, Maryland. Position Responsibilities

The Character Artist will work closely with the Art Director and Lead Character Artist and will play a major role in maintaining a consistent character style. Major responsibilities include:
  • Create jaw-dropping top-notch models and textures.
  • Learn proprietary tools quickly and work within a complex asset development pipeline.
  • Interface closely with the animation team during modeling so that animation considerations are taken into account.
  • Interface closely with the character concept team to produce the most exciting concepts possible, as well as to ensure game technical constraints are factored in at the concept level.
  • Maintain a high level of character quality while working within design constraints and balancing performance issues.
  • Participate in the continual refinement of character tools and production pipeline.
  • Maintain awareness of the latest modeling/texturing technologies and tools.

Knowledge, skills & ability requirements
  • Knowledge: Extensive working knowledge of Zbrush (and/or Mudbox), Photoshop & 3D Max (Maya experience is also of interest).
  • Competencies: Has a solid understanding of next-gen game character development processes, limitations, and dependencies. Must be task driven, self-motivated, and proactive. Actively accepts and provides direction. Works well under deadline pressure. Must have an enormous passion for games. Excellent communication, time-management, and organizational skills are required.
  • Experience: A variety of character modeling experience (e.g. bipeds, quadrupeds, floating or flying monsters, etc.). Shipped titles as a Character Artist on console (PS2/ PS3/ Xbox/ 360/ Wii) is a plus. RPG and/or open-world experience is a huge plus.
