Position Responsibilities
The Character Animator will work closely with the Art Director and Animation Lead and will play a major role in establishing and maintaining the animation style. Major responsibilities include:
- Create jaw-dropping top-notch animations for characters, monsters, weapons, and other objects.
- Learn proprietary tools quickly and work within a complex asset development pipeline.
- Provide feedback to character artists in the creation of models so that animation considerations are taken into account.
- Maintain a high level of animation quality while working within design constraints and balancing performance issues.
- Participate in the continual refinement of animation tools and production pipeline.
- Maintain awareness of the latest Animation technologies and tools.
Knowledge, skills & ability requirements
- Knowledge: Extensive working knowledge of 3D Max and Character Studio (experience in MotionBuilder a strong plus, Maya animation experience is also of interest. Must have a solid understanding of the Character Set-up process (skeletons, IK, FK, facial animation system, constraints, and other systems used for character animation).
- Competencies: Has a solid understanding of next-gen game character development processes, limitations, and dependencies. Must be task driven, self-motivated, and proactive. Actively accepts and provides direction. Works well under deadline pressure. Must have an enormous passion for games. Excellent communication, time-management, and organizational skills are required.
- Experience: Shipped titles as an Animator on a console (PS2/ PS3/ Xbox/ 360/ Wii) is a plus. Experience working with mocap data a plus. RPG and/or open-world experience is a huge plus. A variety of animation experience (e.g. bipeds, quadrupeds, various forms of combat, floating or flying monsters, etc.) and an understanding of traditional animation principles required.
