Note: I called this tank steampunk, but wasn't thinking steampunk when I designed it. Sorry for the mistake, it should maybe be called steam powered, or steam era.
started work on a tank, crits and comments welcome. thanks!
My bad, your right, it's not very steampunk. I was thinking more of the Ironclad ships from the civil war, and early steam trains. If those had a style, what would they be called?

"old" those were old steam vehicles which nothing is wrong with them, its just not what is generaly described as steamPUNK .. tho i wanna see some STEAMMETAL or STEAMADULTCONTEMPORARY do you have any ref of the old ironclads or steam engines to compaire with?
@Rhinokey : hehe, ya. I was thinking civ war - ww1 tanks but with a slightly exaggerated proportions . Sorry for the confusion guys. Here are some examples:
edit : i changed the ironclad reference image to the USS Monitor.
yea agreed with the above, dosnt scream steampunk at me. needs more dials valves, and copper tubing. some of those nice flared Victorian chimneys on the back of it might be a nice touch.
@woogity : i made the mistake of calling it steampunk and made an edit in the first post. I added some reference images to show the basic look I was going for. Thanks
Also taking a look at the battleships that inspired those designs can be a great source of inspiration for something like this.
French Pre-dreadnought and dreadnought classes are some of the most beautiful, real world, machines of war I have ever laid my eyes on.
looking much better.
I think it needs a more heavy feel to it to be really ironclad,
at the moment, it feels like the top is wayso heavy and the bottom is built on a mini.
maybe giant treads will balance it out?
hey man the tank is looking great in the latest shot, and good eye on the new smokestacks they are 10x better than the other ones. One thing i see that kinda confuses me and makes me think you are going toony " ignore this if you are" is the shovel and the hammer on the side of the tank. if someone were the proper size to use those, they would probably only be aobut 2~3 feet shorter than the tank. which if its a one man vehicle would be pretty tight, if he had a gunner, probably wouldnt fit. something to think about
@woogity : hey man, thanks for the reply. Ya, It going to be a toon tank so I warped the proportions in a major way. I think it'll be a little more obvious when i start texturing.
I do agree with you on the shovel proportions. It's time for me do a paint over and adjust a few components/proportions.
U need some seams. Otherwise it looks like it was cast from solid armor
Where 2 perpendicular surfaces meet, on one of them u could show thickness of another.

Being a Metal Slug and Advance Wars fan the Renault Light Tank is pretty cool too.

I'm going to model the threads over the weekend and play around with the tank proportions. I'll post updates next week. thanks!

added tracks, and adjusted some proportions :
I think I'm going to move to the low poly soon.
I still need to make a detail pass and adjust the contrast. Currently I find part of the tank too dark.
warning : you need the unity player, and the file is 1mb.

Oh, and we can see through your mesh mate
@shepeiro : i may duplicate the tank a few times on the scene and test different value ranges. thanks for the input.
