seeing as tho Mirrors Edge came out this year on pc.. and its when i first played it then i choose that :P...then bionic commando i am probably missing some goodies ;( but i cant remember!
Tentatively L4D2, as it has me completely hooked despite not really taking to the original, and as I haven't picked up Uncharted 2 yet despite being super super super eager to play it. Accursed unemployment been holding back my gami-- er, that is to say, research efforts!
I'm gonna have to go with brutal legend, for me...most fun I had playing anything all year. It would probably be Dragon Age, but I haven't picked it up yet
Christ, was Mirror's Edge this year? (on PC, where the FPS belongs )
That's a dead heat between Borderlands and Mirror's Edge for me, then. Borderlands probably just peaks it by being so addictive and fun... but Mirror's Edge was brilliantly done and I have to support people doing new things like that.
If Mirror's Edge counts, that's my pick (and if you consider it to be a 2008 game, it's my 2008 GOTY). I bought it a week ago with the Steam sale and I'm on the third playthrough already, while I have to write an essay and make a gift for someone. Haven't had this much fun since Portal.
Otherwise, the only game that I thought worth buying - Empire: Total War - turned out to be rather bad, so there's no second place here.
Oh man. How could I forget Bionic Commando? That game was amazing. It was short, kind of wonky, but awesomely fun. Also the cut scenes were the classic Capcom bad-ass.
(anybody else get the "FUCK IT" message when they fought the worm after dying a few times?)
I still haven't played AC2, Uncharted 2 or Shadow complex and I don't plan to care about MW2, but from what I have played here's my picks.
Multiplayer: L4D2, nothing comes close. With the impending dlc and sdk I can imagine it will only get better with time.
Singleplayer: Batman Arkham Asylum. I expected to love this game because of the BTAS actors and writers alone. I never expected to love the art, gameplay, atmosphere and everything else about it as well. Totally top notch game.
And since Mirror's Edge PC was 2009 and that's the version I played, it gets an honorable mention since it was awesome.
only b/c I've been waiting for a true Super Metroid remake for years. But that is only a biased opinion .
COD MW2 is amazing , lots of great moments , not sure what happened with the story toward the end, but did'nt really care either . Still beautiful
but it sounds like i need to get Batman
not to mention Assassins creed 2 ( I actually really liked the first one, so if this one is way better well.............)
I say we make a poll on the last day of the year. Have it run for that day only. Have 2 sections, downloadable and full retail. We should also make sure we don't limit the number of choices.
There's been alot of great games this year but Brutal Legend has to be my personal GOTY..A game made by and for metal fans with tones of originality and just a really fun experience.
At the moment I am going with the standalone release of Killing Floor, and for singleplayer, why not Torchlight. I don't know! Haven't played many games this year, but these two definitely stand out in terms of enjoyment.
Also on the list:
Assassin's Creed II. Amazing experience compared to the first.
Forza 3. Most refined driving experience.
'Splosion Man. Holy crap where did this come from? MORE!!!
Team Fortress 2. Definitely not the game it was a year ago, with all the updates. Still just as fun.

Batman, no doubt
Batman:AA
InFamous
all of them were beat by......... (drum roll) Plants Vs Zombies. My GOTY
YES!
I will post for Pior and mention Street Fighter 4.
My pick is Mirror's Edge - original and underrated. Remember the day we first discovered the ingame screenshots?

honestly, lately ive found most games pretty boring. Dead space set too high of a bar for me i think. that is without a doubt my favourite game.

lulz were had,
my vote is, Mass Effect 2, if it wasn't pushed back to 2010

Idk. Just a thought.
Assassin's Creed 2 and Borderlands deserve a special mention also.

Game of the year is Uncharted 2
Batman
L4D2
I really hope either Uncharted 2, or Assassin's Creed 2 wins (though I still stand by my opinion of the controls just being horrible at times.)
here's to hoping COD4:MW2 doesn't win.
