Hello guys + gals
I am doing a pc build this holiday but i have a few questions. my main purpose of this pc will be for 3d modeling/rendering and games.
i'm having a tough time deciding on either a high end am3 or lga 1153 3way sli mobo. with the am3 board i can get a amd phenom2 x4 965 black edition and with amd coming out with the phenom2 x6 (6core) next year that will run on the am3 boards that will give this board some long life.
on the other had i can get a lga 1156 mobo that supports the i5 and low end i7.
I'm sort of leaning towards a am3 gaming board becasue i can run the black edition cores that are quite overclockable and i will be able to run the x6 cores next year. but with the 1156 intel boards i'm limited to the mild i5/i7 cores. both boards supprot 3way sli and 1800/2000 ddr3 so really it just comes down to the best cpu.
either way i want a cpu that will be ready to run doom4, rage and crysis 3 well on win7 and keep up with a radeon 5890/geforce 300 gtx series
what do you guys think? amd or intel for the long term?

I'm naturally inlined towards.
If budget limited like you state. And you seek something you can upgrade.
I realize the corei7 is king of the hill in benchmarks. But again, price performance, see what you decide (look at Toms Hardware comparisons in example). You also admit that you cant get the top tier core17 socket/chips. So lets say the Phenom 6 suddenly becomes the best. So now your stuck with an older MB for older Intels.
Another consideration that is just rumor really. Is I have heard ATI boards are designed to work better with AMD chips (or have driver optimizations). So if your graphics card is ATI, AMD. If Intel, probably either though Nvidia might have some more optimizations for intel simply because well, AMD stabbed them in the back when they bought ATI. I wouldnt put it past some graphics programmer/engineer to do that.
Thats all heresay though. Probably a bunch of BS, and moreover, even it true, not noticeable to end user.

i5/i7 means more $, not only the cpu,the mother board is more expensive too.
but if u want best performance with long term thinking, intel will be the only answer.
Anyway, I use to be a hardcore AMD user, back when they were rated the same as an Intel, but way cheaper. These days, AMD has fallen behind in my book, and Intel really is the best option right now, unless it's WAY more expensive.
