Max 2010 viewport clipping

Heya,
So after doing a search for an issue I am having where the viewport is clipping not-very-close to the camera and it was suggested, in another friend, that I manually adjust the Viewport Clipping distance:
Viewport Label (right click) > Viewport Clipping > Adjust yellow slider accordingly
However, this fix only remains for however long you have the Viewport Clipping 'enabled'.
Any idea how to permanently fix it?

Maybe switch back to something that mimics max unit set up, and scale correct the final object on export? Could probably be easily scripted.
