Tweak component tool in Max?

Does anybody know of a max script or plugin that can mimic softimages tweak component tool?

It seems that max can almost do this with its current tools. "Preview mutli selection" is turned on as is the center box handle. The problem is that when I select a component and try to move it in screen-space it actually moves in whatever axis is currently selected. I have to select the component and then carefully move my cursor over the center box handle. So that's 2 clicks rather than one.

I've checked scriptspot and there is a tweak component tool but that just seems to do the same thing as the preview multi select and nothing more.

Bah! Or I could just turn the center box handle off, set the axis to X and Y and use screen ref coordinate.

I dunno about the multi-select preview thing but I have the center box handle set to screen-space tweak, I guess there's an option for that in the settings (probably Gizmos or Manipulators tab).
I don't really use multi-select so that's probably why it's never come up for me.

If you have 2010 then you have two choices on the graphite menu. In the freeform tab there is Drag and Shift. Shift is good because you can use it as soft selection to move a single vert or several really easily.
