Posted this over at the GA forums. Thought I'd post here as well. Been hammering at this for ahwhile and getting close to the finish line. Props to Arsh for the basemesh.. he provided here many a moon ago. Also big props to Pior for inspiring me to do Snake as I was impressed with his MGS 3 version.

Seems like the eyes (eye!!) opening is a bit too thin and stretched horizontally tho? And yeah the suit look a bit too soft, I guess this mostly comes from the details being sculpted in instead of cut in the basemesh. I think it would be worth recreating some of that with regular polygon modeling ...

Pixel Goat: It's funny you guys should comment about the suit looking flat... that's cause I'm just painted flat colour there. You found me out! Planning on doing multiple zbrush render passes and comp'ing it together. Might even drop the canvas and paint in some fine details.

Pior: Regarding the softness of the suit... yip it's all done in Zbrush. I agree a rebuild would do it more justice... however at this point it's time to grab the low hanging fruit and move on. I could try using 3.5's hard surface brushes to give it a tweak here and there...perhaps? Now that you pointed it out... it's gonna bug me The eye is intentionally stretched to have oriental anime type eye shape I saw in the concept. Like here: http://images.psxextreme.com/wallpapers/psp/MGS3-Substance.jpg If you still insist perhaps you could give me a quick paintover? I'd appreciate it. Big fan of all your stuff dude. Thanks!
RobertHammer: I'm glad my work has inspired your first post and first jab. Santa??!! Bah! Older is good as that's what I was going for. Trying to stay faithful to the concept but add my own slight twist to it.

The vest is reading a bit like plastic, and I'd second getting some patterns or stamp some details on the suit. Looks awesome though.
IF I remember the story correctly, he aged quite unnatrually. Had some condition that made him age super fast. Or something.

Really good take on snake and i like the character the beard gives... the eye does kinda bug me (think that was mentioned before) but not tooo big a deal, just a medium sized deal ^__^
yeah the whole foxdie thing made him age superfast... i would've prefered if he aged more naturally (like big boss), i imagine he'd end up like this ^^
and i dig the simple style of his outfit. Almost seems a little too simplistic when you see it (the vest mostly i think) right next to his head which is fairly detailed, but still reads nice (stylish).

but you did an amazing job on it. He really looks like a picture of a figurine! in that sense it looks better then i think Kojima could do. I think it would actually fit into a spin off game for nintendo.
