well i've caught udk fever and after messing with a couple pun bassed game play ideas (roboxes) (rocket by baby) we have settled on Techs-Mechs a styalized diabloesque point an click action / rpg that starts out in the small town of 1950's Drybones New Mexico. when Clint a retired texas ranger and his neighbor ex-mexican luchadore Juan's mobile homes are destroyed by a meteorlike alien craft they discover a damaged alien robotlike vehicle, they also uncover an alien plot involving hordes of aliens robots and monsters. together and with the help of Techs-Mechs (the name on the robots branding was "super-tech-mechainized assualt vehicle" was partialy rubbed off in the crash) they set out on an adventure that carries them across the planet and beyond!
now that all the goop is outta the way heres the progress so far.
(yeah theres not much this is the beginings.
fleshing out some ideas on style and such with rough props and a hacked up udk camera. ui and player char is still udk also i realized lookin at some ref, that ive got more of an arizona desert an not newmexico, which i have to fix.
i've decided to go the route of roughing in crude props that i will texture with a swatch sheet so its all flat colors, and build hte levels with them, that way i can see for sure in game view where each asset needs to be fleshed out to make it work with the isometric camera angle, here are some rough props airstream mobile home, gas station, picnic table, tree in planter, bbq grill, fence, old tire, pink yard flamingo, cinder block, yard toilet, water pump, water well, drugstore, and another trailer. goina try an rough in a lot more today.
now on to the most important part! i've found a coder/scripter on the udk forums that has jumped in the project with much fervertude! chris2009 has already got point an click diablo style movement working in game and well under way to other greatnesses!
here is a video of the camera and movement code.

any thoughts would be appreciated

The only thing bugging me is the camera's distance from the character. I'm not sure how it would work if you were to bring it closer, though.
the camera distance an such will be tweaked when we have playable combat and such, also there will prob be a bit of zoom you can do to move your camera in an out to where you like
Blown away!!
Are you guys looking for a hand in the modeling process??? id love to help out!!!pretty please!!! :P
when we get further in we may try an recruit some help but for now in the flesh out proccess we are keepin the team super small.
cheers to your indie team!
#1 might be the body shape for this guy
he's puttin up a vid of him point click runnin around it soon an i'll link it.. next up is getin the point click movement to path around obstacles!
this level is totaly test art in no way finished works
and lee will let you know if we need any extras!
i'm pretty stoked about progress here
You make it seem very simple, how large is your team?
I dont know how finished the cliffs tex is but i would make the dark areas much more saturated, looks kinda dirty grey currently.
by the way this looks great!
EDIT:
And that didn't work... Curious about that myself, now. :P
i just paste the regular url for the video. it automatically embeds it.
Now the whole project looks great.
Can only complain about the "marker" that appears when you click is really big.
Might there be an option to turn it invisible, like in Diablo?

Top right is feeling like a humorous super hero, bottom right i just like his expression and pose
addendum:
holy god thats a minor fault I just picked out! apologies.
-On the lucha, I'd vote for top left (but more dressed up, maybe a wrestling unitard?) , then top right.
-gotta throw in my vote for a TF2-like texture style as well. Get your tf2 gordon freeman in there for reference if need be.
juan the lucha concept finalized! dado rocks!
