Website hosting: need suggestions

hay everyone been lurking around for a bit. Found some threads on this topic but most were rather vague or didnt really deal with this direct question.

Ive decided to put up a web-portfolio as i will be done with school in a few months and am currently/will be out looking for internships/jobs.


I've done some REAL BASIC websites back in the Geocities/Angelfire days but nothing as of recent.

Where is a really good place to host my website? As i said above i'm pretty new so i need someplace that's easy to work with and cheap but at the same time reliable.

Ive been doing a lot of research, however, it seems every website host i find has about a billion negative reviews and only a few positive.

any suggestions?

servage.net, not the cheapest, but for the money you get over a terrabyte for filehosting (good if you want to store backups from your computer). Easy access to your file by using their program to mount the file space as a drive on your computer.

I recommend Lunar Web hosting. Save youself some money by finding a coupon OR ..start filling out the forms to sign up and make sure to get past the one where you input your email. Then cancel away / close the window or whatever. After doing this they emailed me a "no wait don't go! Here's $50 off!".

Anyone know of a good Canadian host? I need to move my site out of the US

I've had them for like, 3-4yrs, only had downtime twice, both were scheduled maintenance that I was notified about a week or more in advance.

I can tell you, I've been researching the same thing right now, and based on what I'm seeing on Bluehost, they seem to be the best deal. I currently use 1and1, but I've had multiple issues with them. Not so much on the hosting end of things, but they've screwed up on my account multiple times, and they just jacked up my rates, while offering very little compared to the competition.

I was looking at GoDaddy, because they are easy to get a discount for, but they don't include a domain name. You have to pay for a domain name on TOP of your hosting.

Bluehost offers a crapton of space, and a free domain name. ++

So far highly recommend https://www.webzpro.com/ hasn't gone down once and very prompt support.

Whatever you do dont go with Globat.com they are the scum of the earth.

I've been using http://www.fatcow.com/ for about 5 months, haven't noticed any down time yet and they were the cheapest host I could find at the time that had a decent looking website. Plus their name is awesome.

wow thanks for all the suggestions. yah Bluehost and Hostmonster tend to be the ones that i see on the top of the lists everywhere.

thanks for the other suggestions gonna go check them all out again and see what i can find.

I use 1and1, and though they have had a reputation for being very jerk like have never really had a problem with them, so it can go in both directions. I'm tempted to change my service now after reading some of the suggestions you guys have posed here.
