Looks like Crytek finally decided to make a reply to UDK.
Disappointed it's only offered to educational institutions - I would love to be able to use it for non-commercial products.
I will probably contact my course leader, so I might be able to use that in a lab. I still hope they will expand the license - I'm really considering switching some of my projects to UDK, since it seems more flexible than CE2 at the moment.
At school here we checked for an educational license for CryEngine 2, it was some ridiculously high price, 250k I think. This only seems like a correct thing to do compared to that.
In terms of trying to reach a wider market - I would consider this a reply. Completely missed one, but a reply nonetheless.
I don't think it's going to do much difference either. In my opinion, they should aim towards people who already work in the industry. They should be given the opportunity to try CE3 if Crytek wants them to shell out the cash for a full license.
