My workmate and I are thinking of very soon having a foray into augmented reality territory and were just wondering if anyone here has ever done anything using augmented reality?

Any tips or software suggestions? info about possible pitfalls we may face?

This is something my wife is very interested in. We haven't had much time to fool around with it, and I had trouble getting animations to work.

Wish I could be more helpful. Here are some useful links:

    BuildAR

    OSG Exporter

There are some good videos on Youtube, too.

yup, i have done some stuff with augmented reality. There is a plugin for google sketchup which will allow you to exort max files into google sketchup format and then you can use the plugin to project the models from your webcam. It was a brief thing i did with it and havn't had time to muck around with shaders but apparently its pretty capable software.

    Heres the link

You have to print off a piece of paper which has markers on it for the webcam to track. You can download a trial at the bottom of that page. It turns off after 30 secs but its still quite cool.

thanks for the resources guys, my workmate and I are gonna have a go at this later today

some people recommend making it in flex
others say use one of the flartoolkits
or one of these pieces of software

so we are gonna have to see what we can do within our time constraints.
