Advice for modeling a first gun (CZ 75 B) in Blender

Hi,

I'm new here and I'd like to have some advice to model a CZ 75 B pistol. I'm using Blender 2.45. I use references from http://www.pixagogo.com/DeicideNBF, flickr and google images.

My hope is that by viewing the screenshots of what I've got so far, some of you might be able to give me some advice to help me. I find difficult to manage the number of (close to each other) vertices needed to add details, and how to make progress.

In particular:

- should I use separate object to make the grooves (not yet done) on which the sights are located, or for the front sight (those grooves are not on every CZ 75 B it seems)?

- is two parallel edge loops for the sharper shape are enough, or should it be three (the main one and one for each incident plane) ?

I have also a problem to zoom : by using the scrollwheel, each 'tick' moves the camera too much (and some time not enough, in a different run of the program). I have rescaled the model (in edit mode, not in object mode), but the problem remains; is there some tip ?

I hope it is ok to post such questions here, and thank you much !
