I forgot to pre-load on my work computer for lunchtime gaming with my boss and co-workers! Arrgg, currently downloading at 420 kb/s though, so hopefully it finishes by 12.
PS: First impression. OMFG! IT'S GOOD! IT'S BETTER THAN THE FIRST! BAH BAH BAH BAH! The demo totally didn't show off the good things about the game. Tonight. I'ma gonna game hardcore style!
Just did a quick single player game of the first level of the first campaign at work during my lunch break (with my boss and co-workers crowded around to watch lol). This game is EPIC! Everything there was to love about L4D1 has been multiplied and added on to. Kudos Valve, kudos.
totally agree with you 3DLee... I played it for about 6 hours last night after it was unlocked. Did dark carnival twice and then the swamp level and part of dead center... really slick and polished compared to the first.
Asked this in the demo thread, but I should have asked it here instead. So copy paste!!
Haven't got it yet, so I gotta ask those who have played the full game a couple questions. First, do you still have to cock the gun every time you go from gun to melee/pistol, to gun? That's driving me nuts on the demo. Are there more weapons than was in the demo (besides the nade launcher)? And do you still get zombie's running at you backward, or all weird?
If memory serves you still gotta cock the gun, that bugged me last night. Same weapons, but their frequency is different, i got the magnum twice last night. No issues with strange zombies.
If anything surprised me it was the ending sequence of the campain i played. Wont ruin anything but the level design and ambiance of the new levels is pretty epic, not just in how it "feels" but in the gameplay situations it creates.
Also VS. seems much harder now, reaching the end is truly an accomplishment which is nice. In the original it felt like the infected were at a disadvantage, not any more . Not a single team made it to the end in the vs. game i was in last night!
All in all two thumbs up! But to be honest the game still feels it lacks SOMETHING, hard to put my finger on it. It could be something like items for infected, or more items for survivors, or an overhaul to how the infected play (they're too rock paper scissory) the gameplay still feels a little stale after playing so much L4D 1.
Thanks, crazyfingers. I really hope they get rid of that gun cocking thing in a future update. Not something that will keep me from buying and enjoying the hell out of it, but it's annoying.
Can't wait to play the full thing, and get more than half a level. It looks like sooo much fun
Scanning for Steam games updates... ...............................................15 minutes so far...
per their forums, apparently this is happening to lots of folks my games tab is empty just says the above message.
It unlocked right away on my home system last night, I'm experiencing this problem right now on my work computer. It'd be slightly less annoying if the coworker I'm sharing an office with didn't have it immediately unlock for him and he wasn't playing with random people online. :poly142:
I played through 3 of the 5 campaigns last night and I must say. The campaigns are an all around a huge improvement over the first game. They are much more dynamic and real feeling now. The variety of gameplay stuff that they throw at you in them is cool too. Lots of easter eggs. New weapons are just as awesome as they were in the demo, and the ones that weren't in the demo don't disappoint. I think I am favoring the AK right now as my favorite gun.
The demo lowered my expectations for the final game only to have them thoroughly exceeded.:)
Gotta say, definitely warming up to the melee weapons, particularly the katana. It's awesome for cutting a path through the horde!
M16's still the crowd-pleaser of choice for me, just an all-around useful gun for range and up close, and even moreso when upgraded with a laser sight. Managed to whittle down a witch with the laser-upped M16 and cut her down dead with a katana just as she reached me.
Wish the teammate AI would kick it up a notch, though. As fun as MP is, playing SP could be a total blast if the AI wasn't utterly eat-paste retarded at times, especially when I've got a hunter or smoker on me.
This game gets me particularly excited to see how they use the AI director in other games.
Heh, was making that exact comment to a coworker today. How friggin awesome would it be to see multiple paths in the next Half Life game? Would do wonders for replayability.
loving this game.
Havnt finished the second campaign yet, only playing on expert tho, so it gets tricky at some points, cant get past that damn rollercoaster! Prolly doesnt help that one of our teammates was the gnome guardian sans guns
Okay, I really like the game, but damn do they ever make it hard to actually play.
-The only option that works properly is Quick Match... which doesn't let you choose difficulty and therefore is completely useless.
-Creating games is hidden inside of the "More Search Options" (who designed this?).
-Creating games doesn't work. Thanks for not searching for a dedicated server when I told you to search for a dedicated server. Thanks for setting the wrong difficulty that we chose. Thanks for putting four survivors in a versus match instead of the campaign.
-Server browser would be amazingly nice... if it actually found servers, which it doesn't. TF2 works flawlessly. CSS works flawlessly. L4D2 won't list anything but easy and normal games. Did Valve really make this? What the hell?
It's a great game! I wish it didn't require half an hour of frustration to start playing it.
Everytime I run this game, it runs for like 10 minutes or so then crashes. Just completely turns off (just the game, no errors or pop up messages. And i've alt-tabbed out once and check my speedfan settings and they were fine. My computer can run any current gen game fine too.
I played some of the solo campaign, but mostly the scavenge mode, this thing is pretty awesome I must say !!! I also agree about the improvement over the campaign maps, they feel much more dynamic and epic.
oh also I love that they made all th musics and sounds (witch, horde, etc) more jazzy to echo the louisiana theme, the map end music sounds kinda like the true blood opening theme, which add a lot to the feel.
All you non aussies with LFD2 are sooooo lucky, I played through the 1st campaign part today and I'm returning the game tomorrow, the censoring the game recieved here makes it look like its Teen rated , here are some of the highlights:
1) No wound detail, decapitations, dismemberment.
2) Bodies disappear as soon as, or before they hit the ground
3) When things explodes, zombies vanish before the explosion even happens
4) Zombies are flame retardant and dont catch on fire
As a result there is no suspense to this game, i was more scared playing Halo than this game.
Here's a video because pictures speak louder than words

If you guys haven't tried Scavenge mode yet, I just got done playing it with some friends and it rocks. It's extremely fun and a much shorter length than a full game of vs yet with just as much struggle and intensity. Lots of interesting ways to strategize as well. I highly recommend it if you are planning to do any 4 vs 4 games.
I really hope the midnight riders become playable. It would make sense seeing as there's 4 of them. 4 badass biker rockers, that would be awesome, like 4 Francis'. Except at least one would probably not be soft on the inside and just be awesome.

I really don't see the point in the censored version as it stands. Not only do the changes look ridiculous, but surely if these cuts are intended to protect the moral fiber of the Australian masses, wouldn't an all-out ban have been more effective?
Okay, so things don't dismember, explode or catch alight - but aren't graphic depictions of shooting zombies up-close with a combat shotgun just as potentially 'damaging' as watching someone on fire, or losing a limb? Do movies get the same treatment by the censor in Oz, too?
I'm not trying to derail the thread into censorship policy, I just really don't get why they've even bothered to release it at all, if they're concerned about violent content.
I haven't played the full game yet, but I'm still struggling to care about the new characters. I just had a quick run through of the first game (trying to find that 'kill anyone I want' graffiti), and I guess I'm just really not feeling the characters as likable as the first 'cast'.
been enjoying playing this game with some friends on 360 the past few days. I downloaded the PC version and I have to say i much prefer it on 360. sure the graphics are better on PC and you can aim easier, but the lack of a mouse on 360 really makes the game more suspensful imo.
Anyone else feel like they just sat around and said "ok..what makes this game hard...special infected, ok. lets make more. oh, and people complained that it's not realistic. lets make a special mode that makes it even harder!!"
Just downloading, bought the £90 4pack as we are agreedy house hold and need 3 copies for 3 steam accounts and I got a mate to have the last one and pay me back for it....
