The model itself looks great, but I agree with you on the diffuse. It's very noisy and makes it hard to see some of the details, especially around the fore grip area.
Do you have reference you were using for the diffuse that you could post?
i would remove the overlay texture entirely. i find that when you're making a material, it helps to study the material for just a little while, until you understand a few little key components that make that material look like that material. then, paint that shit. makes it clear.
it's temping to put a texture overlay over somethin because you think "ah, well this is metal, so i'm gonna throw some metal on there, case closed" but it almost always looks wacky, unless the person working with the overlays understands the surface.
the sad thing is, there's just no way around understanding the surface that you're trying to render. remove that texture overlay, get some reference, and take your time...

I have this link in my bookmarks. I just replace "search" with the term I'm searching.
Agree with others on diffuse crits.
Also, the edge of the viewer lens on the scope is a bit messy, maybe try to clean that up.
