Oo-rah!
Rocketbirds Revolution
So for the past 10ish months, I've been with
Ratloop doing the lion's share of the background art (plus some miscellaneous art here and there) for Rocketbirds Revolution, an old-school in-browser platform game (think FlashBack). It's been a three-man development team, with my boss doing the design, characters, programming, and cutscenes, and his partner doing programming and audio design.
Play the demo, buy the game.
And do feel free to drop any comments, suggestions, critiques, grievances here.
(ok yeah, not really "shipped," per se, but it's been released.

Not at the end of the demo yet but already some awesome mechanics actually taking FlashBack to the next level ... hiding in the shadows was very very cool!!
Fantastic game, want more!!!
Can we download the demo instead of just streaming it?
Excellent work tekk, hope it sells well. Now to go and grab me a copy so I can see the rest of your wonderful(?) art
Fantastic stuff, the art is really cool and the demo was really fun.
It looks very compatible with these casual formats ... yet also very appealing to 30-something retro gamers, which I think are a huge part of this console generations market.
What about steam too?
japhir: haha yeah, that initially screwed with my head as well, especially when putting together some of the backgrounds.
Muzz: Initially we were planning on offering a client in addition to the browser format, but a number of technical considerations came up along the way. I'll have to double-check with the boss again, though, see what's the status of that.
bearkub, pior: We have a couple of guys on hand who have experience with console porting, so that's definitely been a consideration. The main goal up til this point, though, was to get the PC side done in time for IGF.
We definitely have some ideas for iPhone bouncing around, as well, though we're not sure a straight port would be entirely feasible due to the control scheme (possible, but potentially clunky). Mainly tie-ins and whatnot.
Thread needs video love http://www.vimeo.com/7346946
-little bug report, I got stuck in the first air duct and had to restart. The character is stuck jittering between his standing and crouching animations. I was able to reproduce it.
Mongrelman: Haha, thanks for the video link, I'd totally forgotten to link that.
SubPablo: Aw damn, we thought we'd fixed the rare situations that was coming up. Thanks for the heads up, sent you a PM.
Great job!
Still figuring stuff out re: steam, xbla, psn, and a standalone client, but while I wind down a bit from mainline production, I decided to start putting some assets together for a simple horizontal shmup (just fer shits n giggles). No concrete plans yet, but I'm envisioning either a free browser game, or a cheap/free iPhone game (though I suppose that'll depend on how involved the development ends up becoming ). Pixel art love coming up:
You can dev the XNA/PC version and kick out a Steam version.
I gotta stop hyperventilating. o_O
You've got a great looking game there LoTekk
Davision: Hmm, hadn't realised that about the German keyboard. Controls can be rebinded from the main menu though.
Jackablade: Cheers, dude. We didn't win any of the awards, but totally stoked that we got the nominations in the first place
