I'm finding it hard to stay focused and motivated, retopology is a real focus killer for me, I was wondering how fellow polycounters got along with avoiding burning-out and just getting plain sick of it.
music. take a lil break, and then just soldier on through it, I find myself happy with the end result on most things but the process can become tedious for sure, its just focusing and getting it done.
If i'm not flying through assets, i tend to get burned out. If i'm burned out, i try to think of something to make that i can burn through really fast, get myself pumped again.
Planning is huge, think of why something's taking a long time, and think of what you can do to make it faster. Even if you can't think of anything it's a great way to break the monotony. As they say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Or rather, if you're spending hours retopologizing something, there's probably something you could do to alter your work flow so that you aren't spending so much time. At the very least spend a few minutes adding hotkeys to something you're doing a lot of lately, it'll make doing it more exciting and faster.
"I fuckin' love my job" seems to work pretty well for me.
That and the fact that if retopoing a mesh kills it for you, get an animator to sit over ya shoulder and egg you on ;D an awesome topo on a mesh really pushes things for me.
Coffee and music usually seem to keep me on track. If i get stale then ill go take a walk and come back to it. Having an awesome end result is also a great motivator.
It's a job man. Don't overthink it and just get through it. I have found the processing stage of projects to be a nice relaxing grind at times. Good for zoning out to some music and just chugging away. For me taking the time to chill during this part of the process helps for focusing during design / highpoly stage.
i actually love retopology, and as a matter of fact i pretty much love all of it whether it is modeling, sculpting, UV or texturing.
my major source of motivation is when i look at another artist's work i know that i can do lot better and then "i just do it"

It's the other way around for me - if I see a piece by an artist that's way better than I could produce, it makes me even more determined to raise my game and strive to produce better artwork.
Also, good music, fresh air and a positive outlook all help.

i think my english sucks, but i was saying the same thing.
Just put on the headphones and open the program, take a deep breath and forget about everything, kids, job, bills, frustrating co workers. It's just you making some art.
That kind of mindset usually gets me going.
