Hi there everyone,
Anyone who's follwed any of my other posts will know my assets/scenes have been pretty simple up to this point, so I thought I'd try something a little more challenging.
I'm attempting to create an UZI, it's the first time I've tried a gun, and while it seems to be going reasonably well... I've run into problems with baking it.
Here's the high-poly:
And here's the low-poly with the AO/Normals applied:
As you can see, the bake didn't go so well.
Now, I'm still a bit of an amateur with normals but am I right in saying that the errors are caused by ray-miss as opposed to cage penetration? Whatever is happening I am having trouble sorting it out so any suggestions are welcome! I'm using Max to bake the maps but I may try xNormal and see what the results are like in that.
Thanks

FYI: You'd get answers to these type of questions faster if you had posted this in the Technical Talk Forum.
I think I've figured out the problem. I'm not that great at making a good low poly and this resulted in the cage being just right in some areas but way off on other areas, especially at points where I've used floating geometry.
I'll run it through xNormal and see how it turns out using the settings you've reccomended changing, and if that doesn't clean it up, I'll spend some time tweaking either the low poly and/or the cage.
And yes I probably should have put this in the tech talk forum oops!
Thanks again.
Here's an update:
Did you do an AO bake along with the normal bake? If not I suggest doing that as it will help the normals pop more.
