I recently moved from Maya to Max, and can honestly say I'll never (willingly) go back. Max is so much more precise, accurate and flexible that I'd never knowingly choose Maya over Max. Sure, Maya's great for animation, and the interface is a hell of a lot more accessible, but for just about anything, I'd go for Max.
If max does snapping and the uv editor as maya does then i could switch, but as it is now, it's a joy to get home and play with maya after a hard day at work with max.

I've had my share of difficulties with it as I have never used it prior to this studio. It has it's modeling shortcomings but it definitely doesnt prevent good work. We've got a ton of Maya artists on these boards who do stellar work.
Funny enough I've now made it a home modeling software of choice since I found it difficult to use Maya at work and Max at home.
I loathed it at first, but after getting to know it better none of my actual modeling approaches changed. In fact I remapped the entire package to emulate my 3dsmax hotkeys almost exactly. Might seem weird to people who sit down at my workstation but it means that fundamentally I didnt have to relearn anything and can jump back to Max without seirous trouble.
I think it would be doing a disservice to the talented Maya folk here if Max guys blindly bashed it as an inferior software package.
Now excuse me while I put my hazard suit and prepare for Maya haters..
hell i hate max, MAX totally sucks balls...
but hey i gotta work with them all... both maya and max have totally slow modeling tools but yeah that does not mean you cant do great work its just gonna take you a bit longer. Snefer showed me the way.
I love max from a working perspective. I switched from Maya about a year ago and haven't been back.
I hate Max from a pipeline perspective. Tech artists with maxscript experience are rare, not to mention it feels like a hacky addition rather than an integral building block of the package. Multi-sub materials can go die in a fire too.

Hypershader system is cool though. Node Based system = teh win
Бог, что пакет сосет, я искренне сожалею день мне пришлось выучить его на работу.
maya is awesome.
Everytime I've used Maya, I feel like Arnold...
Flame on.
only 2 versions left apparently.
Model in max, animate and do export setup in maya, stay happy.

QFT, so much time wasted using it back in the day, too many ways to misuse it and screw yourself.
