Wow looks really nice, it would be strange hearing no gunfires, but it's realistic.
Doesn't shooting gun in space suppose to push you backward real hard? Maybe the jetpack is designed to counter the gun firing kickback?

anyway the game looks amazing.
There are various anti recoil devices you could put on a gun. Or they could be lasers. Or self propelled ammo.
I'm pretty stoked for this game. When's it coming out?
ooh i always wanted a 3d fps with space physics. I knew it would come but I thought it would be with spaceships instead... Back in the day I was playing a lot of Subspace Continiuum which was a 2d multiplayer top down shooter.
I will definetly follow this :P
i dunno, its like lucas said, if you can have music then you can have sounds..
I'm actually a fan of no sounds, breathing and stuff in the space suit type of space style.. but imo you either go full on that route, tension and drama or full on star wars, and I think the trailer took a half way route
eg, when the space baddie backup shows up over the horizon, it would be much more effective to show from the spacemans perspective, heartbeat races, breathing becomes heavy etc, instead of the music crescendo which we get. If you make all the dramatic music, fuck it throw in some laser sounds otherwise it sounds half done
Would the bullets hitting the bodys really have enough force to cause bodies to ragdoll like that? :P wouldn't they have magnetic sorta soles ala deadspace that would clamp them down?!
I bet the entire audio budget was spent on booze, and now they are getting props for being scientifically accurate :P
Regardless I'm super happy to see a space game without sound. I think if they have some environments with atmosphere the contrast between there being no sound at all and a cacophony of laser beams and screaming could be pretty epic.
Interesting that furutremark is now making games, I didn't realize they were until seeing this video. Is this going to be their first release? If so I see a bright future for their games.
gah, why is it, that when i finally set out to make that space game i wanted to do for years, every single idea i had is being picked up by other games? i'm still years from release, gimme a damn break.
I got in the beta for this, only to find I couldn't play cause I didn't have Windows Vista or 7. : (
Was pretty bummed about that, and this only rubs salt in the wound.

Yes.
Basicly a gun is the same as the rocket engines used to get there in the first place. Solid fuel igniting and producing lots of particles to spray out of a tiny hole, with a gun there is a bit of metal in front of it. So you'll be the rocket! How cool is that.

Shooting guns in space also requires an oxidizer in the fuel source. Gunpowder works because of the atmosphere. So they most likely are not a "standard" gun. Gyrojet weaponry (basically a micro rocket gun) would work and not generate much force on the shooter.

Not the bullet/projectile itself most likely, however hemorrhaging gasses from the pressurized suit, and the general human muscular movement upon injury and or death spasms could. As for magnetized soles, they could have very light magnetic forces involved, just enough to allow them to stand still or walk/run along a surface, but not enough to keep them from lifting off at will with either a jump or light boost.
but uhm.. how do you shoot a gun in space, doesn't it need oxygen for the explosion?
It's also fun to think about what will happen to all the bullets they miss they'll be flying around in space foreeeeeeeeeveaaahhh! :P.

apparently this is a recurring post on the Mythbusters forum, there was an interesting reply:
"As we've posted MANY,MANY times. Guns WILL fire in space without any problem. Modern gunpowders contain their own oxidizers and they always have. If you think about it, all guns enclose the powder away from the air so they can produce pressure when fired. More to the point, guns HAVE been fired in space. The Russians did it aboard their Almaz OPS-2 space station when they fired a Nudelmann 23 mm antiaircraft gun at a small target satellite. It worked fine. "

ah cool! I thought it was a closed thingie, but then argued that you'd only be able to shoot once or so (because of the ogygen running low). But what do I know thanks for clearing that up.

Does look very schweet indeed.

Looks interestin thats fo sure!
Supposedly sometime this year.

I hope they put it to good use.
They were definitely playing with a mouse when recording, so that's my bet. Darn, that game looks nifty! Thanks for sharing.
The thought of fps in space makes me all warm and tingly inside. Just hoping that they have solved the controlls in a good way.
Was pretty bummed about that, and this only rubs salt in the wound.

remember that one where a dragon was blowing fire at all the little peons and shit and they were shooting arrows back at it. It was fucking awesome.

Looks pretty good.

I'm excited, i suppose.
I C...
bit the game seems to play completely different to the trailer

Seems theres quite a bit of camping in the game, but i guess thats a given as its a defend type mode.
This would have been even better as a singleplayer game.
It looks great and runs really well on my system, everything maxed at 1920 x 1200.
