Hello fellows
I've been lazy and haven't posted most of what I've been working on, but to atone I have a bunch o'things now!
Lucien
Unfortunately, poor lucien got a bit broken... and I hate hate hate his left hand. Would that I could rework it. Probably could, tbh, but i'm not super comfy cutting hardened sculpey, then remaking the armature, blah blah blah. Maybe eventually, or I'll just do a new version.
Goblin guy - he doesn't have a name
Wanted to do something at a larger scale so I could work on bigger skin textures. Think I got a better handle on it than I had before... works pretty well.
Were-Hyena
A little project I did. Came out ok, methinks. Didn't really push myself... probably want to next time.
And for those of you who may not have checked out our
Art Director's dev diary... I can actually show stuff I've made for work! For that Brink game. Yay.
I got to do a fair number of these... will hopefully have the chance to show them off in the not too distant future.
Thankee for looking!

Are you going to paint the sculpts?
amazing stuff.
Cutting off hardened sculpey really shouldnt be a problem. You could try either a dremel disc, or a plain, thin saw made for metal. Then you can simply drill an attachement hole inside the wrist (basically where the bones are supposed to be), and attach a new hand. You could even bake the hand separately and just blend the joint with unbaked sculpey. Later hardening the seam with a heat gun.
Is that bigger piece sculpey too? I think you could try using some natural clay (WED Clay if you can find it) too, you might love how much faster you could work. Downside is that you have to make molds, cast it, all that... but the gain in speed for buildup will be huge, I think.
Fantastic pieces, good luck for the next ones!!!
If I was to voice any criticisms, it would simply be that we've seen several sculpted gnarly characters/monsters/etc now. It might be nice to see something different and outside the zone you're obviously so comfortable with.
A life size on a backyard surely scares people away..
What is it made of?
Am loving the brink concepts
and the sculpts are incredible
just pure awesomesauce, technic is incredible and detailing maek me shat brickz.
thanks for inspiration.
pior: thanks! Yeah, I do have the dremmel and the heat gun. Not quite sure what will happen when I run into the armature wire in his wrist (guess I could just bring out the wire cutters) O_o I heard recently that it's a good idea to use the heat gun to soften the sculpey, then use a saw. I'm gonna pop by the super awesome model shop London has this weekend probably, so maybe I'll pick up a little hack saw there
I have been playing with the idea of "real" clay, but I'm afraid the..erm.. facilities I have to deal with something like that are fairly limited. Mainly the mess -- it's bad enough right now as it is, and I wouldn't want to deal the landlord if I spilled liquid resin all over the carpet It is something I want to try in the future though. Would that I had a garage now.
Scoobydoofus: A fair criticism to be sure! Lately I've had to balance the desire to do something new with the fun (and relative ease) of the gnarly skin and creatureyness. In my own defense, I *do* have something fairly different sitting on the work table unfinished... I've needed to make some weapons for him before calling it done, and inorganic things are incredibly tough for me (I'm gonna try plasticard soon ... I think that + milliput will make it easier than trying to hack something out of sculpey, which doesn't seem terribly well suited to such things).
Also made some cute tapirs with guns (like this one)... I'm bad with photo-taking, but MoP might bring his camera to work to get a couple shots (they live on my desk).
Peppi: thanks pete! Next time you're around you'll have to come by the office and I can show you stuff in person
Vrav: I actually have painted it *shame* -- don't have any photos right now. Probably will sometime soonish..
verybad: Actually, that one I've already sold O_o I don't tend to make a habit of selling them, but somebody really wanted it. They do represent a lot of my free time though, and I don't cast them so they're pretty much one-offs. If I can get a good facility in which to do casting and decide I don't hate it, there's always the chance at selling garage kits one of these days. Prolly not any time soon though
mziskandar: All the sculptures are super sculpey. A 2:1 mix of regular and firm. Life sized would be super cool
tacit math, gavku, kickzombies, Ferg, neox, killingpeople, Xaltar, AimBiZ, GCMP, Razorb, dejawolf, Shiv, rollin, FAT_CAP, Sa7en, conte, doc_rob: thanks fellows!
Will try to remember the camera tomorrow...
(nice sculptures )
Paint them!!!
once again..
Keep at it, I want more images to save in my droolage folder :P
A bit of a small world story too, last year a buddy of mine here in iowa(not in the games industry) and his now fiance took a trip to europe, apparently he was friends with one of the guys you work with, and ended up staying at your apartment and recognized one of your sculptures from a post i showed him on polycount. Not sure if you remember this but i found it very amusing!
If those concepts weren't for a game, i'd ask if i could model one of em
