oops, turns out the economics prize is the fake one. originally there were five as stated in Alfred Nobels will ( physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peace). the economics prize was instituted in 1968 by the swedish central bank.
lets not forget the extension of the cuban embargo.
I think its all bullshit.
I mean, yeah, he's good, and we support him, hell, better him than republicans, but nobel peace prize? no way, sorry.
That seems a bit soon....
If in two-three years we could speak about him having completely closed Guantanamo, having all troops retreated from Iraq and/or Afghanistan and perhaps even solved the current Iran issue, then I'd say it is justified.

Guantanamo yes troops yes Iran dont think so.. I doubt anyone can change the situation in Iran. As long as Isreal maintains a nuclear deterrent, Iran will always work to have a deterrent of thier own.
wtf. they're talking about the obama in NORTH america? did I miss something? i can't think of anything he's done to deserve this. Are the other nominees so bad that he was the best choice?
The Nobel Committee lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation but recognized initiatives that have yet to bear fruit: reducing the world stock of nuclear arms, easing American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthening the U.S. role in combating climate change.
You just know this is going to antagonize the fanatics even more and further conspiracy theories.
If I were Obama, I would reject it. (If). >If< Then only if some of my goals panned out and they resubmitted my name, take it.
Remember, Kissinger got a nobel prize for such as well, and he actually was/is a manipulative b@stard in the Vietnam war not so interested on creating a peace, as gaining power.

Agreed.
Especially considering the cut off for submissions was 2 weeks after he took office. I'm pulling for the guy like everyone else but seriously nothing takes the wind out of the prize faster than giving it to someone prematurely.
But should conspiracy idiots dictate the way a politician acts?
I think that would be a very weak sign to give it back with this in mind.
America should be proud no matter what reason he got it for.

"Thanks but keep this for when I'm done, I'm just getting warmed up".
Pinning a medal on someone who is still running a race only slows them down.
It feels more like pity from the international community. "Oh look at lil America, struggling to figure out health care and clean up Bush's mess, and that Olympic thing didn't go well at all, they need a little pick me up.Maybe this will shut up FoxNews?"
This is a hand grenade that has just been lobbed into the U.S.'s foreign and domestic policy. This is not good news. Beyond the hilarity of him winning, this is a very serious issue.
Moving on, how can you win a Nobel Peace Prize and send 40,000 troops to the middle east? LOL. And by being in office for only 12 days to boot! This guy is so narcissistic he doesn't even understand why he got the prize. "Erm... I don't really think I did anything to warrant this award, but I'll take it anyway!"
I bet you dinner and the movies that he still manages to botch this whole thing up. He can't help himself. This is going to blow up in his face.
Its a joke, the nobel no longer means what it once did. Nothing against Obama but he hasn't done shit to deserve it. Hell loads of us here could be granted academy awards for our 1337 3d skillz if the bar was as low.
way way wayyyy, too soon. I all for the guy, and really hope he gets some of these bills passed. Its just that. Nothings happened yet. A turn around in the economy? I suppose, that's what all these financial forecasters are saying. But has shit really happened yet? I think things will happen, but it hasn't even been a full year yet!

I think it will take a lot more than 8 years to dig us out of the hole that took 8 years to dig. I just don't think he needs a pat on the back yet. Yea he's said some great things and is even starting to put them in motion, but the road to ruin is paved with great intentions. Lets see where his intentions lead before we go congratulating him.
Holy hell give it to Gandhi posthumously already...
He hasn't done anything to deserve the NPP, much like he hasn't done anything to deserve the Presidency. So it makes sense in an ironic kind of way. Not sayin anything, just sayin.

Either you're a die hard republican who doesn't understand winning by the popular vote? OR you're trolling...
I think it a bit premature to award someone for something that they may do in the future. Everyone seems to be saying that this is an incentive for him to follow through on his promises. But that's not how incentives work. You're supposed to dangle the carrot in front of the donkey, not put it right in his mouth.
A more effective strategy would have been to inform President Obama that he had been a very promising candidate for the award, but that it had been given to someone with more concrete results for their actions. That would have served as better psychological motivation.
Honestly, I hope that President Obama is able to live up to this award, and deliver the kind of international good-will that would warrant it. We will all be better off if this comes to pass. There is no point in not supporting our commander and chief over this Nobel Prize thing. He wasn't the one deciding who got it.
I am a little upset with the Nobel Prize board, though. There were probably plenty of other candidates who have worked hard and were likely more deserving. Awarding Obama largely due to a changing of the guard is unfair to people who have put real effort and sacrifice into achieving world peace.
I'm trying, but I really can't seem to bring myself to give a shit about this. If the Swedes want to give the President a prize, they're welcome to it. I don't see how this is in any way reflects upon the President himself. He didn't ask for it, and winning it doesn't change anything about the job he has to do.

The Nobel prize must be a pick me up from losing the bid for the Olympics...
Hope he keeps heading in the right direction as Obama seems like a good president for the future, hopefully another Reagan mindset.
Why are we looking for water on the moon? We have not even been to the moon?!? :poly122: Hehe..
That's the point.
maybe so, but most masterbate with the right.
politics are stupid in america.

If that was the idea of the committee it´s genius.

Why is there a romance story in every zombie comedy?
I think you didn't understand the words he wrote.
