I'm having a stab at this alone though I'm up to the idea of adding members along the way. Read the brief but nothing came to mind so was just playing around with some very rough ideas,
Wizard of Oz take on it. Think the top one is better suited but I wanted to explore the idea of 'endgame' not necessarily having to be all doom and gloom (as is clearly evident in the bottom image)
I'm struggling with this concept, not sure what to do with the main focus (the light/portal thing) any ideas? Just doesn't seem grounded into the design.
I was actually toying with the idea of doing a portal with crazy wicked flora shooting out of it that quickly overgrows the scene before i focused on my current scene. Lots of vines with spikes and venus fly traps, things of that nature. Or you could have some kind of putrid fluid pouring out, maybe smoke spilling out upwards covering the sky...
After talking it over, like the idea of basing this concept around the leap of faith. Here it being representing as a hologram. Also making the back part of the environment more 'lab' like so you have this strange combo of old ruins but with a lab built on top of it.
Quite original if you avoid doom and gloom, and mix styles.
Just be sure to have enough visual drama to look like 'End Game' and, take a special care into the mood.

Getting there still...I think this could be enough t be honest. Will continue to design as I go along. I think with the right camera angles this could come across more 'epic'. In this concept it looks a bit stale because of the almost isometric angle which was more for design purposes than a 'beauty shot'.
Basic unfinished blockout. It's already giving me ideas on how to flesh this out, see that large back piece of the 'D' that intersects the rock? That should be deleted and replaced with man made barriers...
Working up the block out. I like the silhouette and general shape of it now though that meant taking out some elements from the concept. I have ideas for other things as well but I'll decide on additions when I have a better idea of what I can do with my budget.
I really like the concepts you have for this... it looks dangerous to be here, like forbidden.. and it could almost make for a great UT3 CTF level too if it was symetrical!
