Nah. It's another "Blair Witch" type of movie. Looking forward to seeing it but not sure how the wife will handle it since she tends to get freaked out at even mildly "scary" movies.
I've been wanting to see this for well over a year now, when it stuck in festival hell. It came to Seattle, which is the closest city to me that it's been in, but I still can't drive an hour to Seattle, for a midnight showing of a movie. It's too late, I don't have car, and I don't know anyone willing to stay up that late to go to seattle to watch a movie
They say if a million people "demand it" then it'll get a wide release, and I hope that happens soon. I wanna see it in theatres, with a couple of people. I know there's no way in hell it'll come to my town without a wide release.
Imagine Blair Witch Project + The Exorcist, and multiplay it by 10. If you believe in demons, multiply it by another 10. No scripts + handheld camera...multiply again by 10. It's the most nerve wrecking film i've ever seen...
Some people walked out halfway through, not because they didn't like it, but because it was just too damn disturbing...
I saw it last night. What makes it so freaky is that everything that happens is something that is entirely believable in real life. You see a CG monster in a movie, it isn't scary. But you see a real life situation where things are happening that you can completely believe like sheets moving, banging on the wall, lights turning on when no one is around; it freaks you out. The movie itself is a slow burn with things getting worse and worse as it goes. If you are someone that has a real imagination, then it will definitely freak you out, as they were smart to keep a lot of stuff off camera, which only adds to the tension and mystique.
It is a slow movie to begin with. Don't expect to see anything spectacular like a full blown ghost or anything. Everything that you see is something simple, but in the context of the film, very effective. Like I said, if you are someone that has a real imagination and can put yourself in the situation of the characters and imagine that happening, it will be a very scary movie. It's in the same vein of the Blair Witch Project, but far more effective, in my view.
I say it is definitely worth watching, if anything because its nice to see a scary movie that does not rely on cg, or gore to get its scares across.
It's going full release now. Over a million people "demanded it" and got it a full wide release like a normal hollywood flick. Now I get to take my 13 year old niece to see it.
Glad to hear its going full release. It really does need to be experienced, its like some insane ride in disguise. Might look tame at first but once you're in its all over you're fucked xD
I just got done watching this. Easly the most nerve racking freaky movie ive seen in a LONG time, if not the most. I have never seen a movie with the audience so engrossed and on edge. People where walking out with there girlfriends crying because the shit was pretty freaky. I give it 5 stars. All around great movie.
The trailer is weak. The film was made with 15,000$ budget so i imagine the marketing for it sucks. Infact, it started out as a indie flick but so many people started hearing about it and now its gaining recognition. It was sold out when i saw it.
Bottom line, great story, great acting, effective coriogrophy, and a damn freaky villian. Movie is actually "disturbing", everyone was visibly shaken when the film was over.... Hahah.
it was creepy, but I've had thoughts in my head that are freakier.
I guess if you believe in ghosts and demons it'll ring more true.
I don't believe in shit, and I'm the type of person who'll happily analyze sound design and cinematography before I'll become involved in a movie, but even as I analyzed it, this movie was damn scary. It's not about the idea behind it being really inventive or freaky. It's the natural setting, the authentic feeling acting that came from all of it's improv, and the excellent execution of a simple concept.

EDIT: Thread title....<slaps head>. I posted this in the morning before coffee.

As someone that has experienced many, similar things in his lifetime, I might get really freaked out by this.
But yeah, I could see where the actual film would be creepy as shit.
