Disclaimer: I am participating in Unearthly 2009, but not competing, the only thing I will be competing against is common sense.
I figured this would be a good chance to learn more about the 2D side of art since I don't need a team for it and am starting as a complete beginner.
The idea of the environment is on the road towards a great city that is being ravaged by a technologically superior society. It will be a magical fantasy setting with the original intent on the invaders being more scifi, but I'm starting to like the idea of turning all the scifi gack on the sides into sails/davinci flying machine kind of stuff making it more steampunk.
I'm going to stick with a simple work flow of finishing a pencil drawing, inking it on a 30x40 board, scanning it, and then figuring out how to add the light and shadow in photoshop. By keeping a clear separation between foreground, mid, and back with the intent of leaving the ink lines in, I feel this might be manageable for me. The idea behind the environment is something you'd see in a god of war game, where there would be limited movement on the camera and a vista shot of where you will be traveling to.
So yeah, not much to see so far, so it'll be a great learning experience and any advice from anyone who knows what they are doing or helpful suggestions from a good eye will be appreciated.
