Hey Polycounters, I'm not sure if there was an existing thread for this, but i thought this might be a good area to link to your game idea videos you made for the unlock xbox competition.
(A contest where you could submit a game idea, to be made on xbox live arcade)
Submissions ended today, and over the course of the next month judges will pick the top 10, and then i believe voting is opened up to the community. Unfortunately i feel sometimes the online voting polls become a popularity contest not based on the game itself, but how many people each contestant can rally.
If anyone has made a submission, link it below and get feedback of the best source, those who MAKE the games!
---My entries---
"Beatbox"
BeatBox combines the Fighting and Rhythm genre into one. A standard fighting game with a song played out across the top of the screen. Each player must land their block, kick or punch on a beat, or otherwise noteworthy part of the song. The more you do these actions on beat, the more the beat-meter goes up, letting you do a special move associated with your character's genre of music. If you do things off beat, the meter goes down, eventually hurting your character. Each genre of music within the game has its own character, several music tracks, and a background fighting arena associated with the genre as well. The goal of this game is not only combine two beloved genres into one game, but also help eliminate the stigma of "button-mashing" that is attached to many fighting or beat'em up games. In this game you are punished for button mashing, and instead are rewarded for good timing and use of tactics to win. The other great part about this game, is that everyone already has an idea of a look associated with many genres of music. Like Reggae and dreadlocks, or bling and rap. Thanks for checking out my game!

"FLUX"
My racing game is different from most, if you're in first place ahead of the pack the car turns into an old beater and moves much slower and handles poorly, in last place your car transforms into a super fast, handling machine. This keeps most of the cars in one tight pack, where most of the fun is had in racing games. The race itself is also different, as you are rewarded in points for your rank as you pass a number of checkpoints, at the end of the entire race, the racer with the most points will win. To make the game more interesting there are powerups and weapons used to hamper your opponents and help you take the lead near checkpoints. Requiring not only general driving skills but knowing when to use powerups and weapons effectively, making every race a thrilling contest of wits, speed and skill. You can also customize your car with decals, another fun possibility may be having serialized barcodes in Doritos packages, allowing you to get new decals or things to go on your car, making it unique to you among the xbox live community, but also enhancing your already profound craving for
Doritos.
