i mean they have achieved 1080p at 60 frames per second on PS3! isn't that amazing?. personally i think it's fraud; i think the secret is that it just uses complete texture baking. what do you guys think?
Totally forgot about this game... so I just read a recent interview to catch up on the latest. They claim they can do real motion blur (not vector based) and antialiasing.. all of this on top of 1080p at 60fps with super high res textures on current (and even older) hardware. There's some voodoo magic going on here if this is actually the case.. a lot of modern console games render at lower than 720p resolution and have no antialiasing at all.
I have to agree with Vassago, the newer vids don't look as nice as the older ones.
I never heard of the game before, but looking up screenshots and seeing the website, I think performance aside, it doesn't look all that amazing. Maybe it's the art asset style and quality, but I much prefer Uncharted 2 in terms of graphics.
And uhm 1080p without upscaling from 720p ? A lot is possible with the Cell however, it just takes a lot of work and expertise to actually be able to use it in a game. Perhaps they did succeed in using it very effectively?
Considering the amount of time it's been in development and the amount of money they've spent on it, it really doesn't look all that great.
The guy in that Edge article is really up himself too, describing basically all CG movies (including Pixar) as "the same style" and then in the same breath saying that WarDevil is different and "stylistical". What utter bollocks.
Of coarse all the hype is believable, they've got artist from the CG Film industry, you know, real cg artists. It was only a matter of time until they swept in and put us all out of the job *sigh*
joking aside, WarDevil looks like another game that's trying to be super-real looking and they are using the stylized argument to explain away the weird character design.
It reminds me, a lot, of the cinematics you used to see in games like Baldur's Gate, Planescape and Hexen II.... with an excessive amount of icing on top. Just because you're using high-resolution textures doesn't mean it looks good.
Or maybe I'm weird. I just prefer lower-res textures - more artful, less likelihood of "welp, lots of detail, looks sharp, must be done!" ... but I don't know. Haven't seen much of it so my judgment is just adding to, and riffing on the pre-existing negativity of the thread. There is some pretty bad CG in movies; seriously, high-resolution models and textures... they don't make something automatically awe-inspiring. Maybe to the unwashed masses.
I know there are some people on this forum who do work for Digi Guys. Massbot?
Probably not allowed to comment much on this stuff anyway, beyond promoting it (same as most employees of most studios)
I still don't really know what the game is though. It feels like a lot of hot air unfortunately, mainly coming from one man's mouth...
some people on another forum were talking about this game recently because they read an article in a magazine but anyway i've been suspicious of this game since a long time ago when i watched and analyzed the videos and heard their incredible performance claims. i suspected long ago that they were essentially cheating and had texture baked everything so that there was almost no need to do any lighting or shading calculations in-game whatsoever and that's how they get the amazing performance. i'd like to know if anyone else here suspected the same thing because on other forums people don't seem to understand what i'm talking about probably because they are not game programmers or game artists.
i found out the reason i was seeing the videos from gametrailers.com looking washed out is because Nvidia Control Panel has a setting to do that to videos.
i don't know why there is this setting. i don't see why i should forever be treated like an idiot because i did not know about this obscure pointless option.
EDIT: great. it doesn't work anymore so either they fixed it or there is actually something wrong with my brain like you say.

I don't like it's art direction, and it looks, really, worse than Doom 3 based on Google images.

Anyone got any links to videos?

I know about light-baking and baking everything down to one mega-texture, what are you talking about?
The preview video makes it look like it uses baked lighting because of the "light, texture & shadows" pass.
yeah but what the hell where you talking about? is there a recent interview out? an article? a link basically.
PS. what happened to Project Offset?
All relevant links are posted in this thread. It's kind of anti-climatic!
and baked lighting is considered "cheating" now! OH NOES!
