Make a 4096 x 4096 texture in photoshop. Paste all your diffuse textures onto it unscaled. If you can fit them all on there with no overlap, you're good to go.
I was thinking to model the interior of the pod and using that as my second shot like the alien is looking outside? is this allowed for my second shot?
Mods, some clarification on post processing - we'd like to use a full screen shader effect that isn't explicitly stated in the rules, but as per the guidelines, can be achieved in realtime in today's games using standard shaders.
Yes, Please! isn't it a tradition for GA annual contests to give a week extension:P
Considering most applications are nowhere near done, I would think a week extension is likely. Though I'm trying to burn through as though it's not coming. Still weary of the deadline =\

Haha no i totally saw this coming since the beginning. Always assume (but never plan) you'll get an extension on a GA-event. So yeah. Maybe I'll do some extensions on the scene now when I got the assets.
Sooooo happy that they extended. I was hoping they would, but wasn't going to count on it. Now I can make up for the lost 2-3 weeks of after-work work time due to OT.
I'm w/ Pig - our team has busted our ass to catch up. I think though we'll stick to the plan and get the scene 'done' by Monday then just polish like crazy!
@Adam - sent you a chat invite, we'll see if that works.
I am using a "SceneCaptureReflectActor" in UDK for making realistic reflections. Does the rendered texture from the actor have to be included in the texture budget although it is rendered at runtime?
Changes nothing for me. I lost the first month of this comp to art tests and interviews. Now, I have to be all packed up by this weekend for the move. So I'll be submitting all my final art sometime this week.
Wow.
Suddenly I don't feel so great about how I busted my ass to finish and submit my entry.
So does this mean people who submitted their final entries can UN-submit and work on them more so they can have an extra week of time like everybody else?
Kind of skews things in favor of those who were behind.
Not meaning to come off as hostile towards those still working on things but it kind of sucks to work hard to meet the requirements of the original rules just to end up being at a disadvantage for doing so.

Well why submit so early? You could have worked all the way to Sunday night.
As from what I recall, you can update the final images on the site. But maybe I'm smokin' crack...
Dudelan, i asked a similar question. The sky texture must be put on the half dome, box or whatever that encompases your level representing the sky, NOTHING else. No ifs, ands, or buts. Honestly, the 4096x4096 is a crapton of textures anyway.
hi i saw that the contest has prolonged and i have time to do another entry can i do another entry for the contest? do i need to create another team name?
so can i make another entry?
thanks
smiljan
in the unearthly challenge page says this in rules but i need ot confirm please it says....
As before, Unearthly Challenge has great new features that have never been done in an online competition. Concept artists – get ready to rumble! Once again, you can submit up to THREE final personal entries and this year
Beg your pardon, guys. I was just wondering if I could use a 1024x4096 for my skydome instead of 2048x2048. Since with the main texture sheet we're free to break it into smaller chunck as we wish, just staying in the 4096x4096 area limit, I thought that if the amount of pixels is the same I could spare myself some trouble with an unescessery seam. It's not that it's that hard to do, its just 1024x4096 is closer to what people do in real life, if you know what I mean. Thanks in advance.)
D1ver, i wouldn't chance changing the texture size, but what you can do is work on it as a 1024x4096. When you need to change it to a 2048x2048, just chop your texture into 4 sections length wise and stack 'em on top of each other to form the square. Then do the same thing with your UV's. Just make sure your UV seams land more or less on the cut lines (make sure your skydome has length segments divisible by 4).
Smiljan, seriously dude, calm down. It says explicitly in the rules you can make another entry, so just go for it. But if you're so amped up to do art why not just do it anyway?

yeah, buddy, that's pretty much what i was going to do. But memory wise 1024x4096 is absolutely the same as 2048x2048, so it ain't supposed to be a big deal....
thank anyway!=)
Guys where i can load my pictures that i can put here because that imageshack i use when i put my images suddenly appear bluring and bad and thats not the way it look real
can someone tell me where i can load my pictures well?
thanks
Seems like all your questions are important ones
My absolute protip is... Deliver it a day or two before the deadline incase of last day-technical-hiccups. I'm not sure about the times.
when im in game view in UDK i see the corners like squares i mean like pixelate or something is there a way to optimize the game view to take the final shoot?

so can the interior rock texture count as our skycube map?.....because we really don't need a whole 2048*2048 map for a skycube we can't see lol.

Here is what we'd like to use - edge darken and film grain (note, already running in realtime, no Photoshop post):

I'm sure thats fine, just explain it in your break down shots.

1) I'm pretty much done.
2) Stiffer competition.
3) More badass things to watch
Anyway, you've got two options:
1. Rock your scene that much harder
2. Let other teams catch up

4096x4096 for everything else.
so can i make another entry?
thanks

thanks for answer me

What is the absolute first thing you find? That's your answer. You really need to ask less questions like this smiljan. Google is great.
