I know alot of artist like to showcase there stuff on deviant art. I myself have the ole blog and use other social networking sites but have never had a deviantart page. Is there a better community there vs other places?..or lots of networking?..I guess i dont fully understand the draw.

I wouldn't discredit deviant art as a place where awesome work / inspiration can be found. i would, however, discredit deviant arts community.
*lol and yes i do have a deviant art page. I haven't updated it for a looooong time, or really signed in or visited deviant art in over a year. At least its not elfwood. *barf.
I think the thing to do is have multiple places for displaying your work to maximize impact. Keep a blog, use Deviantart, post on Polycount, you get the idea.
Yes theres the lameboi emo twats and the naruto fanart nerds. Cant stand either of them.
Also alot of chicks on there let their guard down, because its an "art" site and if you got semi decent art they seem pretty open to chat and etc.. while you root around their page and perv at the pics....
I would absolutely 100% avoid ever putting anything up that I ever intended to sell, have sold in the past, or might sell, license, or share use of in the future.
Really though simply having a contract like they have completely turns me off to them regardless...
The upside is the contacts you can make there, especially if you're posting in fairly small/underused categories, and for me, it's the one remaining art/photo website that my company hasn't got around to blocking on the work internet (and polycount) so I'm always appreciative when people have DA accounts so I can browse the awesome WIP stuff on Polycount at lunchtimes.
The upload system is shite though, especially the ridiculous 'mature' button you have to check every time and can't cookie permanently off, which means if I upload 10 pictures of kittens I've got to check a box each time declaring they don't contain nudity, violence or profanity.
And don't bother trying to post complaints/suggestions on forums as you'll just get some whiny 15-yearold DA fanboy bitch that you've only got 10k pageviews so you don't know shit, and should just suck more satan cock and be happy with what you've got.
Oh yeah, and you're fucked if you want to download anything, I don't think even when I was a paid member there was an easy way to download the files all at once, only by editing the actual 'deviation' to allow download , meaning anyone can gank the fullsize/non-watermark version while you're trying to do it yourself.
I vote for Polycount image hosting for a reasonable monthly rate.
>the main "community" acts very immature and reminds me of 4chan.
>acts very immature and reminds me of 4chan.
>acts very immature
>reminds me of 4chan
implying Polycount is mature
Any suggestions?
i'm not a professional...D:
given, there are some REALLY good artists. but for the most part, just a bunch of kids. i actually found my favourite artist on that site though. nick deligaris (http:// www.deligaris.com )
conceptart.org ?
no, deviantart. It really is annoying.
Although there is nudity.
It does have lots of porn masquerading as art on it though. Women begging for attention etc, lots of ego boosting for everyone in general.
Better than the alternative though, some british site with only, sarcasm, cynicism and jealousy in the comments. Maybe thats an idea.
not really I think there are just alot of people of a particular variety eg 14-18 year olds obsessed with anime,manga,furries,poser3d,emo art etc. These people encourage thier own community alot making it almost seem like everything else on deviantart(professional art of all kinds) is very much on the fringe of that other community.
Just for fun, some linkage: http://elhrrah.deviantart.com/
I agree with the others. There is so much....well... eye-unfriendly stuff over there it's hard to find anything good.
That doesnt mean that there isn't there's quite awesome stuff, too.
e:// cghub as an alternative sounds way more convinicing though :O
