ODST...broken save system???

Hey guys, I've been playing through ODST over the last week, an hour or so every night. Every time I jump in I'm forced to go back and replay at least one mission before I can continue on. I've reached a point where I've unlocked all but two and now it's sending me back to tayari plaza (which is one of the earliest). The areas where the last two missions take place (I guess) are still unreachable on my map and the only waypoints available are for missions I've already completed. I don't have time for this!

Has anyone else had a similar experience and how the hell did you work around it? I have no idea what I could be doing wrong here.

When quiting the game, did you choose save and quit from the option menu?

I know some people who had similar problems, I think part of the issue is that "checkpoints" aren't "autosave points", so even if you go through a checkpoint it won't save like a lot of games do, which is a little dodgy.

yea halo 3 did that too, pissed me right the fuck off a couple times when i just turned my console off without quitting the game and lost a couple hours worth of play. good luck with your problems dude!

Yeah, the hub design is a little funky like that.
You will have to make it past all the flashbacks before you get to the linear/current time parts where I believe it does save your progress.

Pretty much all the flashbacks need to be done in one sitting. ;|
A few of them you can just rush through, like Dutch in the Reserve, I did his in 4 minutes on Normal. (Legendary in about 15-20 minutes without firing a shot and a skull on for the Achievement.)

Make sure not to load ANYTHING from the Campaign mission select, that does over write any progress.

I beat it co-op over a few days (split-screen on one system), never had any save problems...it does have a checkpoint system, just need to be mindful not to quit in the middle of something...

Hey Snemmy...I think you've hit it on the head. I must have loaded from the Campaign select screen during my last session and now I have to go and replay all those missions. Hip frickin hooray. And yeah, I'm getting pretty good at some of those missions considering this will be the fourth time I've played some of them.

I'll quit my complaining now, thanks guys.
