Cause its too slow on this comp.

Okay I'm joking, if you didn't realize it already.

BUT can we get one PC building thread and just sticky it somewhere? Its annoying seeing multiple, "help me build a PC" and "is this build okay?" threads everywhere.

It's a well known fact that cardboard, although flammable, vastly improves your computers ability to unwrap uvs. However, not all cardboard is created equal a friend of mine told me pizza boxes work best.

Ah, it must be all the grease that soaks into the cardboard from the pizza. I bet it slowly releases and lubes up the PC from the inside.

We can't sticky those threads because hardware is being outdated TOO FAST! :poly128:

FYI to those unaware. You can search the forums using Google if you're having trouble with the board's search feature. Type:
    "search term" site:http://boards.polycount.net/

    into Google's search bar.

I've dropped a blank google/polycount search into my bookmarks. It's handy.

Maybe we could make a 2009 Computer suggestion thread. I hate having a bunch of stickies and would avoid them as much as possible.

    That'd be a weird thread.

"Hey Question: I'm looking to get a new computer. I want it to Herf-Ferf-Derf really fast."

"Hey Answer: You should get a Derf-Derf-2000, with a new Herf-Herf-Card and Ferf-Ferf-Drive. That'd be perfect for Herf-Ferf-Derfing. xoxo"

"Hey. Now do me. I wanna Herf-Herf-Ferf really fast."

    "Hey. Get a Berf-Gerf-Ferf."

"Hey. Me now. Wanna Herf Fast."

    "Hey. You. Get a Herf."

How about 4 levels of computer configs: "Money is no object", $3500, $2200 and $1500. Try to update it quarterly. If someone from across the pond can chime in on prices...

For Mac inquiries it's "Do you want more ram or HDD space with that?" :P.

I think we should have a suggested list of monitors, keyboards, and mice. But the builds should be more like $700, $1300, $1700, $2300, +monitor and keyboards and extra HDD's.

That sounds like a great idea, but i think the best way to go would be to have it be a hardware thread. So PC builds at diffrent cost, recomended screens, and other things we use. Then have one for each year and have the first post get updated as new/better stuff comes out. Just a one stop place to see what the best build would be for your money, and what moniter(s) would be best for you.

As for price points I'd say have the max be 2500, above that you really are just wasting you money if it's all spent on the rig. But if we go for full systems moniter included then that can be shifted. If we go that way I'd say a base of 1000(with screen) would be perfect. Then if you don't need the screen then for you it's a ~$800 sys.

Then lock the thread to keep the sloths, kittens and polar bears out.

A TheGodZero - A Tier system for each item ("Ultimate", "effin' A", "awesome" and "it works") would work, then they can mix and match what they would like to have.

So do we add this to the sloths, polar bears and kittens? Or is this used only for "What's a good PC for ____ ?" threads?

It would be funny. Everyone just posts TI-85's, and be like "Toy Story was rendered on a farm of TI-85's..".
