Hello all. As a long time lurker, I decided that I wanted to finally join the polycount ranks. I have been working on this character in my free time for a couple of weeks. I do have some WIP screenshots around if anyone has any interest, but as you can see it`s nearly done. I might get around to a little base for him, but not decided that just yet. This is based on a random concept I must have had around for years. I will post the concept, I didnt get any permission to make it, or indeed wonder from it, but hopefully no one will mind either way. I had no real concept for the head, just based on random sculpting, ended up looking like a cross between Brian Blessed and a strange Burt Reynolds.
If anyone has crits, hints or tips, please reply! :poly122: Oh, 6945 tri`s.
Oh, many thanks to 8monkeyLabs for the engine to play with.:thumbup:

Have you checked out the concept art for Fable 2? Very much a similar style, if you're looking for more projects/inspiration along the same lines.
Great style
CheeseOnToast : I heard about the buckle from someone else and should have increased the detail there I agree, will check out Fable because I havent seen much about those games.
whats_true : I guess he just has strange and blotchy hands they arent gloves. Its just I guess I never gave them enough on the uv, or gave it a lot of texture loving.
Glad you guys like it, I was kinda nervous posting as there is a consistently high level here !
Would love to see some flats!
Welcome to polycount
I have whipped up a screenie with some tex sheets and a closeup of his head. Hope you like. Originally the tex I did at 1k, should have done 2k really, but er.. didnt, for some reason. I am not really that hot in the 2d dept, so my maps might look rather untidy compared with a lot I see. Loads of room for improvement anyway!

OH yes, there is a sword on the map, which I ended up hiding as the pose was not right to have it on, maybe I`ll do another pose to show it also.
Spec map question aside... I will probably be using this as reference for my own work in the near future. I love this guy. Great job

Need to think about a new project.... or like you said Katana, a Sheriff sounds like a wonderful idea, I would certainly think about making some new clothes in this style for sure!
really nice style love it!
Thanks for all the replies. I learnt a lot of things doing this project. I was artistically in a dip and really needed something to encourage me to continue on. Looks like some one was looking over me. I had a few close friend encouraging, and glad I decided to post it.
I have to say one of the best decisions I went with was really to avoid the maya 'high quality' mode and put some time in using Marmoset ! By far the best way to view models in a very nice and surprisingly artist friendly interface!:thumbup:
Inspired me to make my ext piece more stylised to add some variety to my folio- so thanks!
